Description of the walk

You can travel by train to Vernouillet-Verneuil station, on Transilien line J between Paris-Saint-Lazare and Mantes-la-Jolie. By car, there are a few spaces in the car park at Place du Général Charles de Gaulle or in the adjacent streets.

(S/E) On leaving the station at the fountain, take Avenue du Chemin de Fer on the left, and after 200m turn left onto Avenue du Château.

(1) At the traffic lights, turn left to cross the railway bridge and continue straight on past the junction to take Rue du Val de Seine on the left; follow it to the Seine and walk along the riverbank on the right.

(2) Take the steps to cross the Triel bridge, go down the steps on the left and head right for about 300 m. Cross the square towards the church, whose bell tower is visible, pass in front of the sequoia and turn right. Cross Rue Paul Doumer, head right and then left towards Saint-Martin Church.

(3) Walk past the church, follow Rue Galande, go under the railway line and continue left towards the cemetery via Rue des Bois until you reach Grande Sente des Beauregards.

(4) Follow it to the left and stay on the path at the edge of the woods.

(5) At the bottom of the descent, continue to the right onto Chemin des Mareilles and stay on the path, which later turns left.

(6) At the gate, turn right, continue along the Chemin des Hautmonts and arrive at a junction.

(7) At the green huts, follow the Chemin des Carrières and du Bel Air on the left, emerge onto Rue du Bel Air, and reach a railway viaduct. Turn right then left to follow Boulevard Angibout and the railway line.

End of the GR®1, start of the PR® Jaune

(8) Go straight ahead at the Stop sign and continue straight on, keeping to the left; take care as this is a busy road. At the top of the hill, by the cemetery, turn left onto Chemin du Château (signposted “towards the church”).

(9) At Château de Vaux, continue along the road, go round the church, pass under the railway bridge and turn right onto Rue de l’Église. Follow Rue du Général de Gaulle to the right for 50 m.

(10) Turn right onto Chemin des Champeaux (not a street on the map). Cross the railway line and follow it. You will come to a medical centre and a car park.

(11) After the car park, take Rue des Carrières on the left, turn right onto Chemin des Sarrazins then onto Chemin du Grand Sentier. Pass a station (Meulan) to take Rue des Annonciades.

(12) Take the steps on the left and continue over the bridge, cross Rue Gambetta to take Rue Nicolas Leclerc to the Seine.

(13) Turn right, cross a public garden with picnic tables and children’s play equipment, and head up to the right towards Quai de l’Arquebuse, following it to the left.

(14) Cross the Pont aux Perches, turn into Rue du Fort and take the first street on the right, Rue Lévrier, then the second on the left, Rue Châtelain Guillet, then turn right to cross the Pont Saint-Côme. At the traffic lights, turn left and cross the Pont Rhin et Danube.

(17) Take the path on the right, which splits shortly afterwards and rejoins further on.

(18) Turn right, walk along the pond, cross the junction and the bridge, and follow the road (Boulevard de Seine) on the left. At the junction, go straight ahead.

(19) At Château de Verneuil, continue straight ahead and take Rue aux Cannes on the left, turn left to pass in front of the media library and continue straight ahead on Rue des Près.
