Departure from Bazemont church (access via the D45, from Maule or Aubergenville). Park in the designated spaces on the adjacent streets.
This route combines several circuits signposted by the Bazemont local council or marked by the FFRP. The local council's signposting is one-sided, in the direction of this description; it is mainly present at major intersections. On sections where signposting and markings overlap, priority is given to the markings in the description, as they are more dense.
Without markings
(S/E) With your back to the roundabout where Route de Flins descends, head south-west and go up Rue des Écoles. Pass the church on your right, then the primary school. At the crossroads, turn left onto Rue des Sablons. At the first stop sign, turn right onto Rue des Lilas. At the second stop sign, turn left, still on Rue des Lilas. At the third stop sign, cross the road and continue straight ahead onto Chemin d'Equevilly (dead end). The tarmac quickly gives way to a track, with a beautiful view on the left.
Dark blue signs + black ring signs on a white background
(1) At the crossroads (hiking map), take the second path on the left, downhill towards the Fontaine Pleureuse. At the bottom (signposted "Impasse"), leave the track and turn right onto a path that passes a forest barrier and climbs into the woods. After a few dozen metres, ignore a path on the right (not shown on the map). Climb steadily through the undergrowth (wet sections). At the top, the path, which has become narrower, turns left. Ignore a vague path on the left and pass through another forest barrier.
(2) Turn left, heading due north, and stay on the edge of the woods on your left and the field on your right (the IGN map shows more paths than there are on the ground). At the end of the field, enter the woods. At the Treize Voies crossroads, turn right (the barriers in place mean that there is only one path to follow). Walk north-east, passing through a few wet patches, go through a forest barrier and you will come to a crossroads.
Red and white + orange + yellow markings
(3) Then turn sharply left and follow theGR®26on a wide path (wet sections).
Red and white + orange markings
At the junction with a forest path (elevation 178; sign), continue straight ahead (ignore the yellow arrow pointing to the right). On the left, pass by the foot of a beautiful oak tree that appears to be alive, then another beautiful oak tree that appears to be dead.
Yellow markings
(4) At the next junction, continue straight ahead, pass through a forest gate and follow a pleasant path heading west-northwest on a slight downhill slope. Walk along a fence on your right, then a birch forest on your left.
(5) At the end of the path, turn left and descend steeply. When you reach the houses, pass through a forest gate and turn right. At the T-junction, turn right onto a tarmac lane which quickly gives way to a path. Walk along a property fence on your right.
Light blue signposts
(6) About 100 metres after the end of the fence, leave the path and turn left onto a downhill trail (Chemin des Prés Poulains). At the bottom, make a first turn right then left and continue between two fences. You will come to a road; follow it to the right for a few dozen metres.
(7) Just before the pedestrian crossing, turn left and take a tarmac lane downhill (no signposting here). At the "La clé des champs" gate, continue along a grassy path. At the corner of a hedge, turn right onto Chemin des Prés Poulain. Walk along the edge of the field on your left and hedges or fences on your right. When you reach a bench, turn right into the undergrowth, pass by a small garden building and continue along a path with a fence on your right.
No markings
(8) At the end of the path, turn right onto a wider path. Cross a street and continue straight ahead on a gravel path. After a green gate on the left, go through a chicane and walk along a wasteland on your left (an old football stadium according to the map; wet passage). At the T-junction, turn left onto a grassy path. At the end, go through a metal gate and follow the street to the right.
Light blue signposts
(9) At the T-junction, turn left onto the dead-end path (Chemin de L'Orme on the map; the sign "Grand Chemin de Maule" indicates the path coming from the right). At the end of this wide path, go down a steep path. At the bottom, turn left onto a grassy path and follow the Ru de la Rouase stream on your right. After about 500m (isolated shrub on the right-hand side), turn right, cross the stream and continue between the fields. At the T-junction, turn left.
Red and white markings
(10) At the T-junction, turn left and after a few dozen metres you will see a wash house (unfortunately poorly maintained and on private property). Retrace your steps.
No markings
(10) Continue straight ahead and uphill on a tarmac road. Cross the Allée des Gibecières on the right, then the Rue de Bellevue on the left, and continue straight ahead uphill. At the T-junction, follow the Rue d'Aulnay on the left (bus shelter on the right-hand side). At the stop sign, continue straight ahead, with the church tower clearly visible. Note the chapel and its pond below on the left. Walk past the town hall on the right, which is in an old castle: don't hesitate to take a detour into the garden.
Continue along Rue d'Aulnay and you will immediately arrive at the foot of Bazemont Church. Turn right and go under the porch that provided access between the presbytery and the church. Turn left into the car park and walk along the church on your left. At the end, turn left to return immediately to the starting point (S/E).
