The Madeleine Forest and Port-Royal-des-Champs Abbey

Méridon Forest and the former Montabé railway line

The first part of this walk alternates between woodland and fields. The return journey is through undergrowth, along the former railway line that used to link Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse and Limours.
The Roselière (reed beds) of Maincourt

At the heart of the Chevreuse Valley Natural Park, a hike that allows you to wander through a protected natural site with a trail laid out by the Park. In the Bois de Maincourt, one can see ancient sandstone quarries. The course of the river Yvette, which the trail follows on the way back, finally allows a patrimonial approach with old mills and old washhouses.
Bazoches-sur-Guyonne - Les Mesnuls - Montfort-Lamaury

The Ponds of Montbron

An unsuspected corner of wild nature, just twenty kilometres from Paris. In the Parc Départemental des Côtes de Montbron, the Ru de Saint-Marc and three ponds are home to a variety of flora and numerous birds. A short walk for nature lovers!

From Le Perray to Rambouillet via ponds, ditches and the Drouette river

A hike from station to station with a water theme! In the Parc Naturel de la Haute Vallée de Chevreuse and then in the Forêt de Rambouillet, a pleasant route, mostly shaded, along ponds, small canals and a charming river, the Drouette.
L'Etang Neuf, Haut Beaussart and Bois des Longues Mares

Between ponds, oak forests, pine forests and birch woods, this is a beautiful hike in the north of the Rambouillet Forest. A varied route in a peaceful setting.
The Dolmen de la Pierre Ardoue

In the heart of the Forêt de Rambouillet, a walk tinged with fern and heather, to discover a Neolithic dolmen and a charming valley along a stream.
Around the Geneste and Minière ponds

A green loop around the ponds of Moulin à Renard, La Minière, Val d'Or and La Geneste in the Bièvre valley, with an optional detour to admire the Arcades de Buc.
The Sainte-Anne Fountain

In the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Natural Park, this hike alternates between forest paths and small roads through meadows and woods, revealing a rich heritage including the Fontaine Sainte-Anne, which was a place of pilgrimage for many years.
The Pinceloup and Saint-Benoît Woods

A route mainly through forest, with some remarkable trees and a beautiful pond, and a heritage detour through the hamlet of Loireux.
Castles in the Chevreuse Valley

This hike will take you from castle to castle in the Chevreuse Valley: Coubertin, Méridon, Breteuil, Dampierre and La Madeleine.
You will also discover Chevreuse, its small bridges and its Saint-Martin Church (with its remarkable ambulatory) and the surrounding countryside.
The hike can start from Chevreuse or from the RER B station at Saint-Rémy-les-Chevreuse (departure and return details in italics). In this case, add 2 km to the length of the hike.
The Vieille-Église Aqueduct and the Rigoles d'Auffargis

This hike explores part of the hydraulic network built during the reign of Louis XIV to supply water to the Palace of Versailles. After a very pleasant walk along the Vieille-Eglise Aqueduct and through the Bois des Vindrins, the trail continues through cultivated plains alongside small irrigation channels.
The Bois de Louveciennes and the Etang de Bechevet

A half-day walk, mainly in the woods, with a beautiful pond and the vast lawn of the Domaine de Beauregard.
Montfort-l'Amaury-Les Étangs de Hollande loop

An easy and very pleasant circuit in the Rambouillet forest, passing by the Étangs de Hollande.
Parks of the Palace of Versailles

La Cave aux Fées and the Côteaux de la Montcient

In the southern French Vexin region, this circuit takes you through fields and woods, playing leapfrog with the River Montcient. The Cave aux Fées, a covered passage dating from 2500 BC, bears witness to ancient human occupation. A dovecote, an old water mill and several wash houses are also worth seeing.
Le Vésinet between the Seine, rivers and lawns

The commune of Le Vésinet enjoys a unique status in France as it is a "park town". It was designed with rivers and lawns, and houses surrounded by huge gardens. Its proximity to the Seine makes for a varied and very pleasant walk, easily accessible by RER. At the end of the walk, the Île des Ibis offers a reward for young and old alike: a children's playground and numerous water birds to observe.
Les Vaux de Cernay and the old quarries

Near Rambouillet, the Vaux de Cernay offer many pleasant walks. The one suggested here gives a good overview of the variety of the site: ponds and wetlands, a passage through a chaos of sandstone and old quarries. This walk is pleasant in all seasons.

The Flambertins Forest and the Abbecourt Pond

A hike that alternates between forest and fields, with a small pond that is ideal for a pleasant break.
Rambouillet Forest - Angennes Rocks & Former Moulineaux Abbey

An easy walk in the forest, on the Rochers d'Angennes overlooking the valley, followed by a visit to the beautiful ruins of the Moulineaux Abbey.
Please note! Several hikers have reported that the route is difficult to follow at the site of the former abbey, between points (1) and (2)
According to the latest information, the passage near the former abbey is now closed and dangerous. The route has therefore been modified and the original route removed.
Le Long de la Rémarde between Longvilliers and Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines

A hike in the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Nature Park, where you can play leapfrog with the Rémarde river. You will encounter old mills, two beautiful churches and an oratory dedicated toSaint Arnoult, patron saint of walkers! You will follow paths along horse pastures or the edge of woods, quiet roads, lanes and footpaths.
At the sources of the Orge and in the Dourdan Forest
The first part of the route follows the upper reaches of the Orge river in a very bucolic setting. The second part is on a cultivated plateau with extensive views. The end of the route is in the forest, with beautiful trees here and there.
The Moisson Loop Nature Reserve

Nestled in a bend of the Seine, the Moisson nature reserve offers a guaranteed change of scenery! Alternating between forest and moorland trails, this short hike should appeal to nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet.
Tour in the north-west of the Chevreuse Valley

A very beautiful hike to discover the wonderful rural and natural landscape of the north-west of the Chevreuse Valley, offering a radical change of scenery from the urban and commercial area of Coignières.
Following the Bièvre river through Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in Igny

The upstream part of this series of three hikes devoted to the Bièvre river. A very pleasant walk along the river and its bodies of water, in a mostly rural setting. A hike from station to station, which can be used to adjust the length depending on the weather conditions or desires of the hikers.

From the Priory of Saint-Nicolas to the Maltoute Fountain
A short walk along the streams of the Plaine de Versailles, including the Ru de Gally, which rises in the castle grounds. The charming village of Rennemoulin boasts a chapel, a wash house and an old bridge, while the Fontaine de Maltoute is a pleasant place to stop and rest in the shade.
The tour of the great oak trees in Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche

Around Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche station - Marly Forest, a walk in a beautiful deciduous forest. It suffered greatly from the great storm of 1999, which flattened the oak trees on the motorway like straw, but this hike has a high density of remarkable trees (oaks, hornbeams, beeches). As the Marly forest is crossed by several busy roads, this hike focuses on the quietest part. It also offers a few viewpoints.
The Claye Forest

In the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Natural Park, a hike mainly through forest, with a variety of tree species and ponds hidden in the fern undergrowth. The Fontaine Sainte-Anne, which was a place of pilgrimage for many years, is a pleasant spot to stop for a rest.
The five lakes of Le Vésinet

A beautiful hike through Le Vésinet, with its five lakes and rivers, as well as along the Seine.
Short loop in the south of the Saint-Germain-en-Laye Forest

A mainly forest route, alternating between wide paths and trails winding through the undergrowth. An opportunity to discover a charming pond and explore a well-maintained botanical trail.
From Chatou to Le Vésinet in a loop along the Seine

This is a very simple walk, as it follows the Seine almost from start to finish. There are beautiful views of the river and large, attractive houses along the way.
The Grand Veneur Cross and the reed beds of Clairefontaine

A loop with several faces... You start along a river and a pond. You then climb up a path to cross a section of the Rambouillet Forest where there are some remarkable trees. You finish through reeds and along a pond.
La Croix Saint-Michel in the Forest of Marly

A mainly forest route with several remarkable trees here and there. The site of the Croix Saint-Michel offers a view stretching as far as Paris. A short but fairly challenging hike, given the alternating ascents and descents (the total elevation gain is probably underestimated; allow for around 200m).
Circuit around La Celle-les-Bordes

Woods, countryside and heritage around the Ru du Pommeret

A short hike in the Upper Chevreuse Valley, rich in heritage and offering beautiful views of the Vallon du Pommeret and the wooded hills that surround it.
Les Granges de Port-Royal and the Rhodon Valley

A short forest hike in two stages. After a lovely view of the former Port-Royal-des-Champs Abbey, you climb up the Vallon du Rodhon on a path and trails that wind through the undergrowth. The hike then follows the wide paths of the Port-Royal Forest.
The Park and the Horses of Marly

A former royal estate (Louis XIV liked to entertain his friends here, away from the court), the Parc de Marly combines a rich heritage with the pleasure of strolling along woodland paths, wide avenues and vast lawns.

A pleasant and varied short hike following the Vaucouleurs valley. Along the way, you will pass through charming villages, castles and an old abbey.
The Vaucouleurs valley around Dammartin-en-Serves

Loop around Brueil-en-Vexin

Starting from the charming village of Brueil en Vexin, you will pass La Cave aux Fées, a Neolithic burial site dating from around 2000 BCE. Then, through a varied, hilly landscape, you will discover a few hamlets and a village with its wash house and old bridge.
The Bonnelles Nature Reserve and the Saint-Symphorien Fountain

This short walk combines natural and built heritage. In the first part, you will discover Bonnelles and its old castle by following the paths that wind through the village. In the second part, you will walk through the commune's nature reserve, surrounded by wetland vegetation and two beautiful ponds.
In the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye

A former royal hunting ground, the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye now offers beautiful high forests with a variety of tree species. The proposed route, marked by old crosses and oratories, reflects this diversity.
