From Mareil-sur-Mauldre station to Poissy station, via Orgeval

A fairly easy walk from station to station, the first part of which is through woodland where you can admire superb specimens of various species of deciduous trees, particularly beeches and oaks, which are certainly over a hundred years old. You also pass close to the Alluets-le-Roi telecommunications centre and its many antennas of all types.
The second part, which is more varied, includes a visit to the ruins of Abbecourt Abbey and the centres of the villages of Orgeval and Villennes-sur-Seine with their churches. The walk ends with a pleasant stroll along the banks of the Seine.

Description of the walk

Departure from Mareil-sur-Mauldre station (line N, towards Mantes-la-Jolie).

(S) Exit towards the east (on the right coming from Paris), then turn left. Cross the road, then take the path opposite that runs alongside the railway line.
When you reach a road, take the tarmac path on the right that runs alongside a wall. After about 350 metres, turn right onto a good gravel path. After a short climb, you will arrive at the Launay farm.

(1) Turn right, then left along the farm wall. Cross a road and take the farm track opposite. After 100 metres, turn right onto a path. At the T-junction 300 metres further on, turn right, ignoring the path on the left and taking the second path that starts in a clearing.
This wide path climbs gradually, then becomes a little steeper before reaching a T-junction at the edge of the plateau. Turn left.

(2) 50 m further on, take the first path on the right. Continue straight on until you reach the D198. Cross and turn right onto the hard shoulder.

(3) 50 m further on, take the path on the left that follows the edge of the woods/crops. After about 100 m, continue along this path, which turns right, following the edge of the forest on your right. After a short bend, turn left at a right angle to continue along the forest on your right.
Further on, enter the forest opposite, come out again and you will find yourself on a small tarmac road with the antennas of the Alluets-le-Roi telecommunications centre on your left.

(4) Cross over and continue straight ahead on the path that more or less follows the edge of the fields. Further on, enter the forest and you will come to a crossroads (number 5 painted on two trees): take the path on the right that goes downhill. At the bottom, the path follows the valley floor of the Ruisseau de Russe.
At the first crossroads, take the path on the right that passes between two ponds. You will arrive at a small car park: take the path on the left that leads to the ruins of Abbecourt Abbey. This is an ideal picnic spot, with several tables and benches and a covered playground.

(5) Continue along the path, which ends at the road, and follow it to Moulin d'Orgeval. At the crossroads, turn right, then left onto Rue de la Garenne, which is marked as a dead end. When you reach the village, take the street on the left, then the second on the right (Rue de la Vernade).

(6) Immediately leave Rue de la Vernade and take a path on the left that climbs gently. Continue straight ahead, crossing a track at two houses built in the forest. Further up, the path becomes a tarmac road and arrives at the entrance to Parc de la Bruneterie.

(7) Enter the park and follow the path downhill. At the bottom, pass between the two buildings to exit, turn left, then further down, turn right onto Chemin du Ru. Take the second left to arrive at the Church of Saint-Pierre et Paul d'Orgeval.

(8) After visiting the church, exit to the right and then turn left at the first crossroads. Then take the second right (Sente Maurice Denis), which climbs steeply and ends with steps. You will arrive at a small roundabout.

(9) Take Chemin des Guêtes, slightly to the left. You will arrive at a business park: cross the busy road (traffic lights) and continue straight ahead. Stay on the right-hand side to cross the bridge over the motorway. Continue straight ahead, following the golf course fence. At the roundabout, continue straight ahead until you reach the small triangular Place Verte between several streets.

(10) Turn right into Place Verte, go down the steps, cross the road and take the steps opposite. At the bottom, go down the street on the right. At the crossroads, turn left to visit the church.

(11) Turn around and walk up the shopping street, which is lined with trees on both sides further on. At the T-junction, turn left. At the next fork, turn left again and, at the T-junction, turn left again: go under the railway bridge.

(12) Then follow the road along the Seine upstream to the famous ruined bridge at Poissy. Pass under the bridge (if the Seine is not flooded), then walk up the right bank: Poissy station is right there. (E)
