Description of the walk

Starting point: Mareil-sur-Maudre station (Transilien line N). Exit via Place de la Gare.

(S) With your back to the station, turn left and then immediately left again onto Rue Christian Pouillard. Cross the level crossing and continue to a roundabout. Take a short detour to the left along Rue des Fontaines to see a wash house (about 50 m). Then continue left for 100 m along Route de Rambouillet (D191) and cross at the pedestrian crossing. Follow the small lane leading to a footbridge over the Mauldre, which you will take.

(1) Then turn right onto Rue Degly Maillot, then left onto Rue du Château and finally right onto Ruelle Saint-Martin. When you reach the church, climb the few steps and walk along the right-hand side of the building. Climb a flight of steps to reach the War Memorial. Then turn left onto Rue Noblet Gandon. At the Fork in the road immediately ahead, turn right onto Rue de la Cavée, then take the path that continues from there.

(2) At the crossroads, turn right and continue along thisPR®® for nearly 2 km, ignoring the side paths, until you reach a Fork in the road. Go down to the right with thePR®® to come out immediately onto a street opposite a cemetery. Cross over and head downhill, following the cemetery along the Côte du Cimetière to Rue d’Orléans (where there is a fountain).

(3) Turn right, then take the first left into Rue des Maréchaux. Continue right along Rue Quincampoix until you reach the church. Carry on straight ahead along Rue du Plat d’Étain, then cross to the left into Place du Général de Gaulle. Continue along Rue Saint-Vincent and, at number 10, turn right into Sente au Loup. At the end, turn right, then immediately left to cross the cinema car park. Take the footbridge over the Mauldre on your right.

(4) Pass a car park on your right and follow the path that runs alongside the river’s recent meanders. Further on, take the second small bridge on the left. Turn right a few metres further on, and continue straight ahead until you reach a T-junction.

(5) Turn right and pass a small bridge on your right shortly afterwards. Follow the Mauldre, ignoring the side paths, until you reach the Grande Rue in Aulnay-sur-Mauldre.

(6) Cross a bridge to the right and follow the Grande Rue until you reach a roundabout. Turn left onto Rue des Mille Soupes. Continue along the path beside the railway line, ignore a turning on the left further on, then carry on to the right to reach a junction in Nézel.

(7) Head left onto Rue du Pont des Prés, then cross the Mauldre again. At the T-junction, turn right onto Rue du Bec de Géline. Keep the streets on your left until you reach a Fork in the road.

(8) Take Rue du Château on the left, which leads to the church.

(9) Head up to the left onto Chemin de la Mare Malaise, then take the second right onto Rue de la Tanqueue. Pass by a wash house just before reaching Rue de la Source. Cross it and continue uphill to the right for a few metres (houses on your left) before taking a path. Further on, this path descends to the right and leads onto a road (Rue des Grands Prés).

(10) Follow this road to the left for about 150 m. Turn left onto the first path, then turn right towards the houses. Head up the road opposite, Rue de Montepair, then pass two streets on your left.

(11) At the crossroads you’ll soon come to, turn left onto Rue Saint Martin, then right onto Chemin Neuf. Continue along Rue Hérault de Sechelles until you reach a T-junction.

(12) Then turn right and continue to the church. Turn left onto Rue de la Brèche, and continue along Rue Jumantier. Pass the War Memorial on your right. Cross two junctions.

(13) At the D113 (Boulevard de l'Ouest), head left until you reach the traffic lights. Cross the road and go straight on along Avenue de la Gare to reach Épône-Mézières station (Transilien lines N and J) (E).

Thank you @CHOCHARMOD for sharing this route – it was a pleasant, varied and very peaceful walk. We used the Visorando app, so we didn’t need the route description. In Epône, we took the alternative route, which included a circular route through the castle grounds. From Epône station, there are trains to Saint-Lazare and trains to Montparnasse. Thanks again!
