Around Montainville

Montainville is situated in the centre of the Yvelines department. The commune’s territory extends across the eastern edge of the Mantois plateau and the western slope of the Mauldre valley. The village site forms a promontory bounded by two valleys named after their springs: the Serpe valley to the north and the Orme valley to the south.

Description of the walk

The start of the route is located near Mareil-sur-Mauldre railway station.

(S/E) From one of the station car parks, take the D307 road on the left towards Mareil-sur-Mauldre. At the roundabout, turn left onto the Route de Rambouillet (D191) and follow it to the château.

(1) Continue straight on along Rue Degly Maillot, then Rue Noblet Gandon, on the left of which stands Saint-Martin’s Church.

(2) At the fork, turn left, slightly uphill, onto Chemin des Deux Croix. Towards the end of the path, join Route de Mareil.

(3) Cross it carefully (no pedestrian crossing) to take the Chemin du Moulin de Montainville opposite. Follow the path to the Montainville cemetery where, if you wish, you can see the grave of André Raimbourg, better known as Bourvil (1917–1970).

(4) Turn left after the cemetery to take Rue de l’Étoile, then turn immediately right onto Chemin des Murgers. At the end of the path, turn left onto a track leading to Chemin de la Font de l'Orme.

(5) Follow this path, turning right, then left onto the same path. Take a path on the right which leads downhill back to Chemin des Murgers; follow this path, turning left to join Route de Rambouillet D191.

(6) Take the road to the right, then a little further on turn left into Rue du Lavoir. Cross the Mauldre, the railway line, and one of the two branches of the Ru de Gally.

(7) At La Maladrerie, turn left onto Rue de la Vallée, cross another branch of the Ru de Gally and turn left onto the path leading to Rue de la Gare.

(8) Follow the path that continues from Rue de la Gare, running alongside the railway line, and leads to Mareil-sur-Mauldre station (S/E).
