Along the banks of the Oise from Maurecourt to Andrésy

A lovely, flat route to enjoy at a leisurely pace along the banks of the Oise, with a section high up behind the Pays de Maurecourt offering magnificent views of the Oise. This region is even more beautiful when viewed from the footpaths.

Description of the walk

Departure from Maurecourt station, accessible from Saint-Lazare station, train J towards Mantes-la-Jolie.

(S) Take Rue du Bel Air and follow the railway line, which is on your left.

(1) Turn left onto Avenue des Robaresses, then take a small path on the right called Sentier des Favrils.

(2) At the crossroads, turn left onto Rue des Martyrs de Chateaubriand and follow it to the end.

(3) Climb the stairs and cross Avenue Jean Moulin with care. Continue straight ahead on the Sente des Fonceaux, marked PR® Yellow. Then turn right to follow the Chemin des Charvaux across the fields. Head straight on until you reach a T-junction.

(4) Take the Chemin de la Folle Rue on the right and, after a short stretch of woodland, continue straight on along the Chemin des Groux until you reach the Sentier du Haut des Buis. Continue left to Rue Alexandre Deneufchatel and turn left again until you reach the hairpin bend at the edge of the woods.

(5) Turn right onto Chemin du Tartaleau. Walk alongside the woods until you reach Rue de l’Hautil. Take the street to the left for about a hundred metres, then turn right onto a path that leads you between woods and fields.

(6) Continue straight on, passing the Maurecourt cemetery. Cross Rue de Pontoise, then Avenue de l’Ancienne Gare, and continue straight on along Chemin de la Ville de Paris.

(7) Walk past Maurecourt’s municipal stadium, cross Rue de Choisy and continue straight on along the Sentier de la Saussaie to the banks of the Oise.

(8) Turn right onto Promenade Ar Zenith, following the River Oise.

(9) Go under the Pont Eiffel in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, then under the Conflans bridge, and continue along Avenue du Général de Gaulle after the confluence with the Seine. Ignore all turn-offs to the right and you will come to a road near Île Nancy.

(10) Continue left along this road, known as Boulevard Noël Marc. At the Espace Julien Green, first turn right then left to reach the Clos des Vignes residential complex. Turn left, passing in front of Place Chantepleure and then the Church of Saint-Germain.

(11) Make a right-left-right turn and continue along Rue des Courcieux. Cross Rue des Écoles and pass in front of École Élémentaire Saint-Exupéry. At the Jardins Maupassant residential complex, turn left onto Rue du Clos Malot and arrive at Bras d’Andrésy.

(12) Turn right onto Quai de Seine and walk for about 1 km.

(13) Turn right onto Rue Georges Delamare, right onto Rue du Général Leclerc, then left onto Sentier de la Graux Choux, which leads onto Avenue Maurice Berteaux.

(14) Turn right onto it and follow the avenue to reach Andresy station (E).

The first part was pleasant, with fields stretching from point 3 to point 5 and a superb view of Paris as we climbed up onto the plateau. The Berthe Morisot trail is a lovely walk that recalls her stay with her sister. Along the banks of the Oise, the scenery is varied but not always pleasant; first a green area, then an unattractive urban area with noisy industrial sites on the opposite bank, and finally a quay lined with more upmarket houses. To get back to the station, we took a shortcut, a very steep alleyway. We regretted that this walk didn’t include the island, which is accessible by ferry. An idea for another route solely around Maurecourt, with one section through the fields and another on the island.

It’s easier to follow the route map than the route description.
When you leave the PR at point 4, you then follow a GRP, marked in yellow and red, which you simply need to follow to the banks of the Oise; the paths or tracks indicated thereafter are not signposted, so the description is useless.
At point 7, the municipal stadium is located after Rue de Choisy, not before – or rather, it is the gymnasium – and the Ar Zenith promenade begins in front of the municipal stadium. There is also a gate at the exit, so the passage may potentially be closed.
Regarding the crossing points: at point 13, you should leave the Seine rather than the Oise, and at point 14, it is Avenue Maurice Berteaux rather than Avenue Delamare.

At point 5, there is another unmarked path; it starts next to the house at number 52. Near the finish, there is no sign for the Sentier de la Graux Choux either.
Regarding the closed path between points 4 and 5, there is no difficulty; you must continue straight ahead – a sign indicates where to turn left – and, moreover, the route of this walk does not pass through this closed path.

A lovely walk. However, contrary to what is stated, it is not a flat route; there are some steep sections that may be difficult for older people. But that is part of the charm of the walk, with superb views of the Seine and the village.

An interesting route, but because of the quarries, the path is blocked by fences between points 4 and 5, and you end up wasting quite a bit of time trying to find a way back onto the route at point 5.
The Berthe Morisot trail is really lovely.
