Fillièvres walks

This route was inspired by the "Contour des bois" trail suggested by the 7 Vallées Tourist Office. I removed a few tarmac sections and added a few paths. Get ready for a day in the great outdoors.

A short walk around and through a village in the Ternois region called Oeuf-en-Ternois. The walk through the village is interesting and the paths are very pleasant. At the Bois Robert crossroads, you may, like me, encounter a few deer.

Following in the footsteps of Charles V (1500–1558) from Vieil-Hesdin, you’ll pass an old convent and cross the River Canche. The path will take you up to the heights of Le Quesnoy-en-Artois, and the return journey is all downhill via the Chemin des Morts. You’ll be treated to some lovely views of the Hesdin Forest, and if, like me, you’re lucky, you might spot a few roe deer.

A pleasant walk starting from Boubers-sur-Canche, with its castle and St Leger’s Church, which, passing through La Canche, leads to the Vacquerie-le-Boucq plateau, skirting the Bois Madame, then descends along the Bois des Avents back to Boubers-sur-Canche.

In the Riez de Nœux-les-Auxi, there is a beautiful walk along the Canche in Boubers and Ligny. With the climb up the Ravin des Cavernes, you really feel like you are in another world (even more so now, with the final chaos). The route becomes very difficult in wet weather in the Riez and the ravine.

A lovely hike in the Ternois region starting from the charming village of Humières with its castle and cave. You’ll be walking mainly on paths and trails that can get muddy in wet weather, but the scenery quickly makes you forget that.

This nearly roadless route takes in the wild Ravin des Cavernes and the astonishing moorland of Nœux-lès-Auxi (le Rietz). Le Rietz de Nœux is a protected nature reserve. In spring, it's home to the most beautiful orchids. Goes without saying, don't pick them! This circuit takes up a large part of the "Sentier de l'Étoile" (Path of the Star), of which there are a few routes, but no description. What's more, there are very few markings. The gates are near the fence on the right. Before tackling this route, I advise you to watch the 2 videos linked in Denis' commentary.

A lovely walk starting from the church in Auchy-lès-Hesdin, taking you across the Mont Galant plateau with its beautiful panoramic views. You’ll walk along the edge of the Hesdin State Forest, with a view of the Ferme du Bois-Saint-Jean, a former commandery of the Order of Hospitallers. The only challenging bit is a hill as you leave the village of Auchy.

This walk allows you to discover the Authie valley on the east side. We pass by the old Auxi-le-Château railway station, which is a fine example of the restoration and conversion of existing heritage. Also worth noting is the small military cemetery, which reminds us of the horrors of war. Finally, enjoy the superb views of the valley and the charming town of Auxi.

This hike through hills and valleys allows you to discover the three "Heritage Villages" surrounding Auxi-le-Château. It offers a variety of landscapes that testify to the inhabitants' attachment to their heritage and respect for diversity.

This loop allows you to discover the banks of the Authie and its marshes before leaving the valley and climbing up to the plateau. It finally skirts around the Pâture Mille Trous nature reserve. There is a beautiful view of Auxi-le-Château and its 15th-century listed church.

A fairly long but not overly difficult hike offering beautiful views over the Ternoise valley. May 2025: The Montigny trail (3) has been thoroughly cleared, something that hasn’t happened for ages! It is currently perfectly passable.

A route offering beautiful views of the Authie valley. The paths are very good in the first section (up to Frohen) and the end is a little more challenging, but in the heart of the countryside.

A fairly challenging walk taking you through a wide variety of landscapes. As you emerge from the woodland onto theGRP® Canche-Authie trail, you’ll be treated to a splendid view over the Authie valley.

A short, unpretentious and easy route.Very small roads and paths for a relaxing half-day out.

Le Pronay, a hamlet of Ramecourt with its ‘Cathedral’ (3), so named by one of our members: it is in fact a chapel. You’ll reach it by crossing the Bois de Pronay. For the return journey, follow a section of the old railway line from Saint-Pol to Frévent and, to finish, you’ll pass in front of Sains Castle. A largely shaded walk.

Starting from Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise, the Fossé Cagnu route takes you along a few of the town’s narrow lanes, then along paths that are sometimes damp, followed by a short detour through the village of Troisvaux before descending the famous ditch. Along the way, it’s not uncommon to spot a few deer.

The old marked trail around Ambricourt is unfortunately poorly maintained or not maintained at all. We have been walking it for 25 years and have encountered difficulties every time (poor signage, paths buried under nettles or difficult to walk on).The start at Teneur allows you to pass (twice) in front of the superb limestone hillside of Teneur. Deer are often visible in or around the Bois de Crépy The path is in very poor condition between points (2) and (6). If possible, avoid the period between mid-June and mid-August. The passage after point (3) will be easier if the field is not too far into the growing season or has already been harvested.

I used the start of an old marked trail (Sentier de la Fontaine) which, like many in this area, has disappeared. The route takes you through the Bois des Bouloies and, after passing through Occoches, the return journey follows wide farm tracks. You can have a picnic in the square. You can follow this up with the “Les pâtis au départ de Barly” walk for a total of 20 km.

A short walk in the Ternois region, starting from Anvin. A short climb will take you up to Mont d’Heuchin.Descend to Bergueneuse and return through the countryside to the starting point.Stunning views throughout the walk and plenty of opportunities for some lovely photos.

A short walk around Fressin with a few climbs through lovely scenery. Head up through the Fressin woods, cross the Planquette, and walk across the plateau where you’ll find great photo opportunities of Fressin Castle – a castle you’ll get to see up close on the way back.The path is well signposted in yellow. Some might say there’s no point in detailing signposted paths, but for me it’s important to share them with the community.

A succession of small roads and paths for a day in the great outdoors.The icing on the cake: a good elevation gain with a superb climb in the Bois de Fressin. For very experienced hikers, I highly recommend the alternative route described in the practical information section.

A long walk around the Planquette Valley, culminating in a traverse of the Hesdin Forest. Not to mention the lovely paths around Cavron-Saint-Martin. And, of course, I made sure not to skip the lovely climb up the Bois de Fressin, which is a real treat for the calves. When I went there in early September 2023, the paths were in excellent condition, but the first rains will quickly wear them down and the walk will become very difficult. Using the app makes finding your way much easier!

Another lovely route in the Ternois hills. Few roads and, in good weather, beautiful panoramic views.If you're lucky, you may also spot some deer (a herd of six at the end of February 2019).

A short but very hilly route (carto-explorer even gives 230m elevation gain) around the village of Eps, unjustly excluded by the marked trails. Beautiful views.Best done on a sunny day - it's magical!
