Loop to the north-west of Auxi-le-Château

This loop allows you to discover the banks of the Authie and its marshes before leaving the valley and climbing up to the plateau. It finally skirts around the Pâture Mille Trous nature reserve. There is a beautiful view of Auxi-le-Château and its 15th-century listed church.

Description of the walk

Departure from the football ground car park, Rue du Cheval.

(S/E) Head west and go around the stadium on the right towards the "Village de Vacances de L'Authie".

(1) In front of the entrance, take the path on the left that runs alongside the river, passing to the right of the sports field.

(2) Pass the water treatment plant and enter the marsh. At the first fork, continue to the right and pass a farmhouse-castle.

(3) In the hamlet of Lannoy, immediately take the path on the right that passes behind the houses and then joins Rue du Lannoy (D118).

(4) Continue to the right (be careful).

(5) At the electricity pole, take the path between the pastures down towards the Authie. Follow the river to Rue du Calvaire.

(6) Cross the Authie, pass in front of Willencourt town hall and turn right onto Rue du Marais. At the bend, continue straight ahead along the grassy path that runs alongside the Authie. Follow this path, which turns left twice and then right after the pond.

(7) Cross the footbridge over the Grand Marais and follow it on your left until you reach Rue de Willencourt. Turn right to join Route de Berck (D119).

(8) Cross this busy road carefully and climb the lane straight ahead until you pass the copses.

(9) Go down the grassy path on the right after the last grove. Continue along the valley that leads to the top of the next hill, level with the nature reserve.

(10) Go around the Pâture Mille Trous Nature Reserve on the left until you reach the D120. As you pass, admire the view of the Authie valley and the town of Auxi-le-Château with its 15th-century listed church.

(11) Drive carefully down the D120 to the cemetery.

(12) Turn left onto Rue du Château, which passes in front of the site of the old castle before descending towards Rue de l'Église and the town hall. Turn right and pass in front of the town hall to reach Place de l'Hôtel de Ville.

(13) Cross the square, leaving the car parks on your left, and follow the signs for Abbeville. Cross the bridge over the Authie and continue straight ahead to Place de Verdun.

(14) Turn right onto Rue du Cheval, pass the nursing home and continue straight ahead to the football pitch car park (S/E).
