Departure from the village square (town hall) in Fillièvres.
(S/E) Follow theGR®121(red and white markings) towards the church. At the church, turn left. Ignore two streets on the left and continue to a crossroads. Take the second street on the right (Rue de Conchy), still following theGR® in a south-easterly direction. Continue on theGR® in the same direction. Pass a pumping station and continue to a right-angle bend 330 metres further on.
(1) Leave theGR®. Turn left and continue to a T-junction.
(2) Turn right, then immediately left to go around the "Terre à Moutons" (there are no sheep here anymore!). This wide path turns left twice and then becomes a beautiful trail along the edge of a field (beautiful view). You will reach a wide path which you follow to the right.
(3) Take the first path on the right which runs along the left-hand side and below the place known as "Champ de l'Épine" (Thorn Field), which gives this hike its name. Continue along this path (north-east) to reach Linzeux.
(4) At the T-junction, turn left onto Rue de l'Église, then immediately right. Ignore the street on the left and join the D101.
(5) Take the path opposite (neither the D99 nor the D101). At the crossroads, continue straight ahead, then after a 90° left turn, ignore the turn-off on the right and head towards the Bois de la Haye, clearly visible on the right.
(6) Just before reaching the D109, turn right to follow the north-eastern edge of the woods and join the D110.
(7) Follow the D110 on the left. At the three-way junction, turn left onto Rue Sainte-Catherine and rejoin the D110. Follow it on the left.
(8) At the crossroads, turn right onto the D98. Pass in front of the church and continue for about 500 metres.
(9) Take the path on the left. At the three-way junction, continue left and join the small wood, following its northern edge (a pretty path overlooking the valley).
(10) At the small road, continue left. At the castle, turn right to join the D98.
(11) Cross it and take the grassy path opposite. Join a small road.
(12) Follow it to the right to walk along the Bois de Fortel. Ignore a large path on the right.
(13) At the three-way junction, turn right, heading south, and at the crossroads, go straight ahead. Continue for about 300 metres.
(14) At the three-way junction, take the left path downhill. Climb a little and you will reach the D101.
(15) Follow the D101 to the right. Ignore a path on the left, then at the three-way junction, leave the D101 and turn left. Descend to reach the village square (S/E).
Great hike with benches in the village of Willeman for a snack break in front of the town hall. However, at the castle, we turned right to go to Wail to see the fishing ponds, then we rejoined the GR trail to reach Fillièvres. Perfect!
