Caussols walks

A beautiful circular starting from Caussols, which first leads to the summit of Montet and then to that of Haut Montet. Magnificent and varied landscapes, exceptional views.

This unusual route for the region will take you past limestone rocks sculpted by erosion, including a cave chapel which you can visit. You will pass through the facilities of the Côte d'Azur Astronomical Observatory. This loop will then take you on a journey through 2,000 years of history along a Roman road through the woods. The final section, through stone enclosures and old sheepfolds, bears witness to a pastoral past.

Notre-Dame de Calern, the cave chapel overlooking the small village of Caussols, leaves no one indifferent. Located on the southern slope of the Calern plateau, this place of devotion and fervour is the site of an annual pilgrimage on 15 August.

Short hike to the summit of the Causse de Calern, where the panorama is remarkable with views of the coastline in the distance, the Caussols Plateau, and the peaks of Cheiron and Mercantour. On the way, visit Notre-Dame de Calern, a cave converted into a chapel.

The Calern plateau above Caussols is extraordinary for its botanical diversity, karstic relief, sinkholes, karstic caves and collapses. This hike reveals an agricultural heritage of cleared sinkholes, dry stone enclosures and huts, and piles of stones that decorate the landscape. In May, the dew adds a touch of magic to the wild orchids, ball thyme and budding lavender.

After learning about the work carried out by the Calern Astronomical Observatory, this hike takes you along one of the longest ridges in the region, offering magnificent panoramic views of the karst plateau, the Caussols plain, the middle country and the Mercantour.

This is a lovely, easy walk for the whole family in autumn to admire the magnificent colours of the leaves or in summer to enjoy the cool shade of the woods.

A little-used route in the Grasse hinterland. 360° view from the summit of Montagne de Thiey on the Calern Plateau, the bays of Cannes and Saint-Raphaël, the azure Pre-Alps and the Mercantour in the distance Before reaching the summit, you will pass through beautiful woodland and the livestock farming areas of Canaux.

This hike goes around the Malle plateau, first following the Colle du Maçon ridge and then the Doublier ridge. Most of the route is along the peaks of the Grasse Pre-Alps and offers breathtaking 360° views of the Mercantour, the Côte d'Azur and the enchanting Caussols plateau.The Malle plateau is farmed by a group of livestock breeders. This route respects the boundaries of the Malle estate, which are marked by numerous signs on the ground.

Another route providing access to the ruins of Castellaras and Lac de Thorenc follows part of the existing circuit on Visorando. It starts from the D5, at a place called La Pinée, and is just as interesting. I have classified this route as difficult due to its orientation and length. It is advisable to bring a suitable tool for this route.

This short but challenging hike starts in Cipières, a village at the foot of the Calern plateau facing the Cheiron massif, and takes you to the banks of the Loup, a 49km coastal river (the second longest in the Alpes-Maritimes) through deciduous forests. Once you reach the banks of the Loup, you will walk along the buried Foulon aqueduct, which supplies water to Grasse and the surrounding area. Unfortunately, although the river is right by the path, it remains difficult to access.

Cime du Cheiron via a trail that is little known to walkers. This trail has been cleared by our club and marked with cairns. This is a large loop that goes around one of the first foothills of the Pré-Alpes d'Azur, following old paths and the Gorges de la Siagne. The loop is long but mostly flat, except for the descent to Cabris and the very steep climb back up to Saint-Vallier. The villages offer views and shops for refreshments. It is recommended to start early, as the second third of the hike will be sheltered from the southern sun, but the hardest part is exposed. There are few alternative routes or shortcuts once you are in the gorges between Saint-Cézaire and Saint-Vallier.

This is a classic hike to the summit of La Colle, which offers exceptional views of the Côte d'Azur and the Grasse Pre-Alps. The fairly steep climb between points (1) and (2) passes through a beautiful oak forest, then a pine forest, before crossing Castellaras de la Malle, a prehistoric camp surrounded by a well-preserved rampart.

The Cavillore plateau hike is a loop along historic paths with a troglodyte fortress hidden in the cliff, a Roman road and the former priory of Saint-Vincent. Throughout the route, you will enjoy magnificent views of the coast and the village of Gourdon. This circuit is a variation of hike no. 1337911, "Plateau du Col de Cavillore". The route is unshaded and easily accessible, even for paragliders flying overhead.

A magnificent hike through the wild karst landscapes of the Grasse Pre-Alps. As a bonus, there is a section on a well-preserved Roman road.

An unusual hike. Discover a small fortress built on the side of a cliff and climb the Colle de Rougiès. This day trip takes you through two areas off the beaten track, including the Cavillore karst plateau. A treat for nature lovers.

A very short mini hike with a very gradual and gentle climb. The path is very safe and easy to follow.Very pleasant for a light meal with a panoramic view.

Superb hike along a long ridge with endless views across the entire department. The hike is quite long but can be extended for the more athletic by passing through Coursegoules or even Bézaudin. The luckiest hikers will catch a glimpse of Corsica in good weather. It is common to see chamois and marmots. The return via Vespluis and Les Miroirs (no difficulty) allows you to admire the entire ridge and the south-facing slope of this mountain in pastoral tranquillity.

Starting from Bramafan, the trail climbs under the pine and beech trees on the cool, quiet north-facing slope. The mossy ground absorbs your footsteps, and the air smells of resin and damp earth. Between two pale rocks, the view opens up onto the Loup valley and the Cheiron ridges. Gradually, the forest thins out and olive trees herald Cipières, perched on its luminous spur, after a leisurely walk of about ten kilometres. The descent to the river is calm and the path sometimes enigmatic, but you'll get there. Return via the Canal de Foulon.

Circular route from the Bar-sur-Loup karting track. Gentle climb then hike through oak trees with several views of the Pic des Courmettes, Opio, Châteauneuf-Grasse, then magnificent panorama of the coast, the bay of Cannes and Grasse. Fairly steep descent above Grasse and return along the contour line.

Circular walk starting from the new car park in Saint-Pons (municipality of Gréolières) towards Coursegoules, passing under the Cheiron. A very varied route passing by the 6th-century Saint-Michel Chapel. Return via the Chemin de l'Autreville and the Vespluis and Taillet valleys, with a small ford that is easy to cross. Ideal for a full day out with a nice stop in Coursegoules: restaurant or picnic, bakery and water point.

A short circular hike above the village of Courmes, ideal during the deer rut at dawn or dusk. Thrills guaranteed! A brief stop on the Saint-Barnabé plateau offers beautiful views of the Cheiron massif to the north and the village of Gourdon overlooking the Gorges du Loup to the south.

A very pleasant wooded hike offering beautiful views of the gorges and the Loup valley. The ancient paths used to connect the villages, the buried Canal du Loup on which we walk, its former railway line dating from before 1900, and its terraces bear witness to a commercial and agricultural past from another era.

Starting from the small village of Courmes, you will climb up to the Plateau Saint-Barnabé to ascend the Puy de Tourrettes, a mountain whose summit plateau offers views of the Mercantour and the coast. After a short descent, you will climb back up to the Pic de Courmettes, a pretty viewpoint with a 360° panorama of the Loup valley, the Cheiron massif and the Cap Ferrat coastline in the Estérel. After a steep descent along the western ridge, you will return to the village at a leisurely pace through the forest.

A short, easy hike to discover the beautiful landscapes between the Gorges du Loup, the Plateau Saint-Barnabé and the Cheiron Massif. Le Pré Royer is a beautiful area of successive clearings above the Bramafan forest. During the rutting season, you can hear many deer at dusk or dawn.

A very pretty walk in the forest, cool, flowery and rural with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Take the opportunity to visit Courmes, a charming little mountain village.

The route is not particularly difficult and can easily be done on snowshoes if there is enough snow. The summit section of the route offers superb views of the Caille plain and all the surrounding peaks.

This hike is accessible to all. The highlight is the magnificent site of Castellaras, the only difficulty being the climb, which is nevertheless reasonable. The hike starts from the picturesque health resort of Thorenc. The route also offers views of Lake Thorenc and the Château des Quatre Tours. The variety of landscapes and paths is another interesting aspect of this hike. What's more, there are no navigation difficulties.

At an altitude of over 1,400 metres, this pleasant hike through the pine trees takes you on a journey of discovery through an enchanting environment. The Pic de Fourneuby overlooks the village of Le Mas and offers a 360° panorama of the foothills of the Alpes-Maritimes and neighbouring departments.

A very pleasant, easy family hike through pine forests and small meadows, ideal for a picnic in the mountains.

Starting from the Gréolières-les-Neiges resort, this short circular hike will take you to the Cime du Cheiron, the highest point of the massif of the same name. You will then follow the ridge to Jérusalem for some magnificent views of the Mercantour and the plateaus further south, Saint-Barnabé, Calern and Caussols, before descending via the slopes. During this hike, you may encounter vultures, chamois and even marmots.

A challenging hike along the Cheiron ridge, passing by the summit of Cheiron (1,778 m), Jérusalem (1,768 m) and Croix de Verse (1,706 m). During the ascent, you will enjoy a 360° view, overlooking the villages of Gréolières, Cipières and Coursegoules to the south, and the village of Aiglun with its gorge, Mont Long to the north.

This circular hike will take you through the Rouret forest to discover the Roman Camp. The first part goes up the Gorge des Trucs, then you will switch to the north-facing slope of the forest to climb up to the Roman Camp through a wild forest. The summit ridge offers some beautiful views of the valley and the Gorges du Loup to the north and the coastline to the south. On the descent, you will pass through a pretty little valley where the Baume Robert cave is located.

This is a short hike to do between late April and mid-June to admire the peonies in bloom. Much of the route is in the woods, so it stays cool even in hot weather. This mid-mountain walk is a great way to enjoy the area outside of the ski season.

A beautiful snowshoe hike (or not in winter) with no difficulty and panoramic views of the Mercantour peaks and the French Riviera on a clear day. After a pleasant first section in the Cheiron forest, you cross a small valley before climbing up to Plan des Baumetes and reaching the Crête du Cheiron at Croix de Verse (1,706 m). 360° view of the sea at Argentera!

A magnificent hike passing Croix de Verse, Jérusalem and Cime du Cheiron in Gréolières les Neiges. Not particularly difficult, with a 360° view between the peaks of Mercantour, Vallée du Loup and the Mediterranean on a clear day. Depending on the season, paragliders take off from the route.

This walk follows route no. 31 in the Randoxygène 06 "Pays Côtier" guidebook, with a slight variation on the way back, allowing you to see the entrance to the Baume Robert cave. From the oppidum at the summit, of which only a few low walls remain, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Loup valley, the Cheiron ridge and the villages of Bar-sur-Loup and Gourdon... and on the other side, all the way to the sea.

A lovely family walk in the forest to discover old sites and visit a teaching farm (cows, sheep, goats, donkeys, ponies, horses, etc.).

From the small Provençal village of Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne, this partly shaded route, running alongside the water and following ancient paths, will take you back in time. You will cross the famous Pont des Tuves bridge, walk up the banks of the Siagne river, passing the ruins of the old paper mill, then the Pont des Moulins bridge, before returning to the Siagne Canal to its water intake. The return journey is via the old Pont de Mons bridge.

Starting from the charming village of Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne, you will explore the Siagne Gorges. On the programme: - descent to the Saint-Saturnin Chapel, - walk along the Siagne canal, - crossing the splendid Pont des Gabres (or Pont des Tuves, depending on which bank you are on), - climb back up this wild river with its crystal-clear waters and return to the village for a lovely view of this beautiful valley.

After crossing the village centre, which has retained its feudal appearance, you will walk along magnificent paths, some of which are paved slanting streets. This hike is reserved for lovers of wooded areas and places steeped in history, as numerous remains bear witness to the intense activity that took place here until the early 20th century.
