Park in the car park at the entrance to the village of Courmes.
(S/E) Walk down from the car park and turn immediately right to reach marker 88. Turn left towards Vallon des Combes.
Follow this marked trail, which climbs gradually into the forest. Pass close to a clearing, turning to the left.
(1) Ignore the unmarked trail that branches off to the left and climb along the edge of the forest. The trail then exits the forest and climbs via a few switchbacks.
Continue to marker 256.
(2) Turn left towards Pré Royer. The level trail skirts the hill overlooking Les Combes, with the Puy de Tourrettes and Pic de Courmettes in the background.
The trail then descends towards a wooded area at a clearing at marker 257.
(3) Continue straight on towards Pré Royer. Climb gently up to a small pass above a ruined sheepfold and enjoy the beautiful view to the west over the Loup valley with the villages of Cipières and Gréolières, and to the north over the Cheiron Massif.
(4) From here, you can make a round trip to the Serre de la Madeleine for a beautiful view of the Gorges du Loup. Join the track on the left and turn left onto it.
Descend slightly, then climb back up towards the high-voltage power line. Cross it and when the track descends to the left, turn right to reach the viewpoint over the Gorges du Loup.
(5) Retrace your steps to the previous crossroads.
(4) Turn left and follow the marked trail above Pré Royer to marker 258.
(6) Turn right towards Coursegoules. Descend into a wood and, at the end of it, turn right onto a track that makes a long downward turn to the right through the oak trees.
This takes you around Pré Royer, then along it and across it twice on the descent to return to marker 87.
(3) Continue straight ahead down a well-marked path. Head towards the forest, then walk along its edge towards the east before turning right towards the south onto a good path under the woods.
When you reach the small clearings, you will find yourself back on the path you took on the way up.
(1) Continue downhill along the same route as on the way up and return to the starting point (S/E).
