Circular Cipières starting from Bramafan

Starting from Bramafan, the trail climbs under the pine and beech trees on the cool, quiet north-facing slope. The mossy ground absorbs your footsteps, and the air smells of resin and damp earth. Between two pale rocks, the view opens up onto the Loup valley and the Cheiron ridges. Gradually, the forest thins out and olive trees herald Cipières, perched on its luminous spur, after a leisurely walk of about ten kilometres. The descent to the river is calm and the path sometimes enigmatic, but you'll get there. Return via the Canal de Foulon.

Description of the walk

Park on the left-hand side of the D3, about 20 metres after the Bramafan crossroads.

(S/E) Retrace your steps to the signpost indicating a small path on the right leading to the GR®51.

(1) Follow it downhill and take the footbridge into the forest. The path first heads left, then winds pleasantly to the Canal de Foulon building.

(2) Continue on the GR®51, turning right. You will reach the junction at marker 166.

(3) Continue straight ahead on the GR®51, ignoring the small path that branches off to the left. You will reach marker 167.

(4) Take the path uphill to the left and ignore the path on the right, which will be the return route. The slope becomes steeper. You will reach a plateau with a few fields and sometimes animals. Continue to marker 21, located about ten metres before the end of the road and a house on the left.

(5) Turn right. Then follow the wooden "itineraire pédestre" (walking route) signs and continue until you reach the RD603.

(6) Go down the road on the right, pass marker 22 and continue for about a hundred metres.

(7) Turn right and follow the signs towards Le Loup. Enter the forest and continue straight ahead downhill.

(8) Cross the footbridge, then continue towards the trout farm. Take the path on the right that runs alongside the ponds and continue to the next footbridge.

(9) Cross the footbridge and continue to the left. The path is sometimes difficult to see due to tall grass and low-lying vegetation. Stay alert, but the terrain is flat and straight. The path along the Loup eventually becomes clearer.

(10) Turn right and rejoin the canal path you took on the way there.

(4) Turn left and follow the route you took on the way there in reverse to return to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

(8) Cross a footbridge over the Loup river, which leads to a trout farm.
