This is a short walk we did in October to discover the Esnaur and then gather some chestnuts along the pretty Arraioko Erreka stream.

A short walk in the Gros Cerveau massif above Sanary-sur-Mer to discover two geological features, including the Roche Curade, and some remnants of Provence’s former agricultural and industrial activity.

A very easy walk that will allow you to see some fossils, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, with beautiful views of the hilltop villages of Le Castellet and La Cadière d'Azur. Between 1824 and 1949, a lignite mine (a type of coal between peat and hard coal) was operated at the Fontanieu site; a few very discreet remains of this operation can still be seen here and there. Those interested in geology will enjoy "reading" this landscape.

This is a short walk with no other aim than to spend a pleasant moment in a superb landscape and enjoy the peace and quiet of the wide open spaces of the Basque Country.

With no elevation gain, as it always follows the level of the ponds, this hike allows you to immerse yourself in the unspoilt nature of the wetlands of the Hostens departmental estate, created on a former lignite mine 40 km south of Bordeaux.

On this hike, we will approach La Roche Redonne from an original angle and describe fossil structures and a Roman bridge along the way.

This is a short, flat walk along the Canal des Étangs, between the D106E5 bridge and the Pas du Bouc bridge. On this section, the canal takes on the appearance and flow of a small river full of charm and wildness, a sort of miniature Amazon with orange-coloured waters. North of Pas du Bouc, it is still a canal, while south of the D106E5, it takes the name Courant de Lège and prepares to flow into the salt meadows of the Bassin d'Arcachon.

The walk mostly follows a ridge above the Guil valley between Aiguilles and Ville-Vieille. We recommend returning via the free shuttle bus, which runs between Château-Queyras and L’Échalp.

The town of Six-Fours les Plages is actually made up of a large number of hamlets, each bearing the name of an old family. A single walk, however long, is not enough to cover them all. Here we will see only a few of them, as well as the famous Fort de Six-Fours, located on the site of the old hilltop village that has now disappeared.

This hike starts in Saint-Véran, follows the Clausis chapel trail, which it leaves to return via a beautiful balcony path along the course of the old Grand Canal. Without any difficulty, it offers superb views of the Saint-Véran valley, the village and the surrounding peaks throughout the route.

This is an easy walk, mainly on paved or unpaved tracks (some are necessary), which nevertheless offers constant views of the Meije massif, wide open spaces around you, and a bright route rich in discoveries. What's more, this route is ideal for Nordic walking.

This short walk is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, with beautiful views all around Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and a pleasant route that starts at the edge of vineyards, then goes under pine trees and along a rocky ridge, ending with a descent down the famous sand hill.

The tour of the Font d'Alagnon cirque, passing by two peaks, is the programme for this walk above the small resort of Le Lioran, which offers beautiful panoramic views of the Cantal volcanic massif.

For anyone from Auvergne, the Col de la Croix Morand is inextricably linked to Jean-Louis Murat, who sang about it better than anyone else (and who was also the only one to do so!). Starting from the pass and heading south, you walk along the ridges and cross a few puys in a magnificent setting of wide open spaces and panoramic views of the volcanic Auvergne, witha"deep feeling" of freedom.

This is a walk in the salty air of the Arcachon basin, where land and water intermingle and enrich each other, in a vast area made up of former fish ponds and salt marshes. We did it in 2013, on a beautiful cold and sunny day in December, but don't hesitate to come back in all weathers and all seasons, because the face of these places is endlessly changing.

This modest hike takes us to the Péclerey mountain overlooking the village of Le Tour, at the northern end of the Chamonix valley. This small, unassuming mountain offers superb views of the surrounding peaks (Aiguilles Rouges, Mont-Blanc), the Chamonix valley and the Tour glacier.

As the title suggests, this unpretentious little walk offers a pleasant stroll even if you’re short on time. It also aims to introduce an additional route along pretty paths, which can serve as an alternative to the ‘https://www.visorando.com/randonnee-a-la’ pine forest hike ...

This short route includes a pleasant walk through the forests overlooking Ramatuelle and a visit to a treasure of Provençal heritage.

From the Dardennes district, this walk will take you to the summit of Mont Combes, passing through the Tourravelle estate, with superb views of the Toulon hinterland and in particular the village of Le Revest-les-Eaux. You'll spare a thought for the Neolithic men who found the raw material for their Ripelle flint tool workshops here.

This modest walk is a variation on the one I have already published: "La Gâche and the Colline de Sable". We do not climb up to the La Gâche viewpoint, but take a few different paths and make a detour via the Château des Baumelles estate.

Here is a variation on the hike I described previously (La Roche Curade above Sanary-sur-Mer), which allows you to discover a new trail, climb up to the Pointe du Gros Cerveau fortification, follow the ridges, visit the Garou cave, and approach La Roche Curade from the opposite direction. Only the last quarter of the route is the same as the previous route, but in the opposite direction.

A short walk above the Font d’Alagnon valley, in the family-friendly resort of Lioran-Laveissière. Beautiful views on either side of the Col de Rombière, and the more adventurous can climb Puy Griou. At the end of summer, you can even pick a few blueberries on the sunny slopes.

In the privileged environment of the Bordeaux suburbs, there are many opportunities for walks and hikes. This loop, with its varied landscapes, can be enjoyed as a quiet and relaxing stroll, or, on the contrary, covered at a brisk pace using the techniques of power walking or Nordic walking. I opted for the latter, for a workout circuit lasting about an hour and a half.

This challenging walk allows you to explore some of the features of these hills overlooking Châteauvallon—whose silhouette is ever-present when you live in the western Var—including the Croupatier and the Bau de Quatre Aures. This route shares a few sections with another walk that includes the Bau, but in the opposite direction, and extends partly along the northern slope towards Le Broussan. Furthermore, we have chosen to take the Pas de la Cavale on the way up and make this the starting point of our route.

Climbing up to the old village of Évenos from Sainte-Anne d'Évenos is a classic in this part of western Var, but you never tire of it and, above all, the walk can be a little more rewarding each time if you take the trouble (or rather the pleasure) to look around you: this landscape has a lot to tell us.

This easy hike will take us around a temporary lake and to one of the viewpoints of Carqueiranne, following the paths of my childhood in the countryside surrounding this village, which has changed so much since then.

The Giant of the Bois Noirs, whose summit is often shrouded in clouds or mist, can be approached from Lavoine or Saint-Priest-la-Prugne. For this walk, we chose to approach it via Palladuc. It is a fairly strenuous walk, but one that guarantees peace and quiet, wide open spaces and sweeping views over this part of the beautiful Auvergne region.

We set off at a leisurely pace for this short stroll around the little village of Laveissière, in the Alagnon valley, as our original aim was to pick blackberries. We did just that, but this little route was well worth sharing as it’s full of lovely things to see.

Having a river near your home is always a blessing. Our Eau Bourde is modest but full of charm, offering around fifteen kilometres of almost continuous walking or cycling along its tranquil course, alone or with the family, whatever the season.

You don't have to go far to take a little trip back in time. In Six-Fours, between La Coudoulière, Cap Nègre and the Sauviou corniche, by observing the rocks, you can easily travel from ages of over 500 million years to a few thousand years in just a few hundred metres.

This hike is a classic. It will first take you over modest heights offering beautiful panoramic views of the Dévoluy valley and its mountain backdrop, then through a small but nonetheless spectacular gorge, all around the pretty village of Saint-Étienne-en-Dévoly.

Sometimes you don’t need to climb very high to gain altitude: the Crête des Baumes, which overlooks the resorts of Super-Dévoluy and La Joue du Loup, offers 360° views across the whole of the Dévoluy and its mountainous ramparts. This is a short walk perfect for a rest day, for example, between two longer hikes.

The aim of this walk is to visit the ruins of the hamlet of Rabioux. Setting off from the village of La Cluse, we follow a lovely track across a sun-drenched plateau at the foot of the imposing Mount Aurouze. Peace and beauty in the wide open spaces of the Dévoluy.

A visit to the Gaoutabry dolmen is a classic outing in the London hinterland. A previously published hike accessed it from the Tamary valley. We went there in February 2016 and March 2018, starting from the village of Notre-Dame des Maures, which still bore the scars of the terrible Pansard flood of January 2014.

Between Cestas and Léognan, there are wide open spaces for beautiful, healthy walks, whatever the season. This is a walk that can be enjoyed with the family at a leisurely pace, but is also perfect for Nordic walking. Between the two lakes, the landscape is constantly changing, as both the vineyards and the forest take on a different appearance depending on the season and how they are used.

Île des Embiez, owned by the Paul Ricard Foundation, is just a few minutes by boat from the port of Le Brusc, in the commune of Six-Fours-les-Plages. It is a small, unspoilt world where you can enjoy a day, or even several days, of complete change of scenery and freedom.

A picturesque little 11th-century chapel in the middle of an olive grove, an old iron mine, a peaceful and refreshing retreat and a breath of fresh air, all just a stone's throw from the town of Six-Fours: these are just some of the attractions of this short walk, which is a pleasant way to spend a morning or afternoon.

A circular walk starting from the Anéou basin, to pay a visit to Jean-Pierre, the giant of Béarn, and enjoy the beauty of a few small mountain lakes. A walk we have done several times in late summer or autumn, always with the same pleasure.

This is a short hike that takes you off the beaten track to a lake that is less frequented but just as beautiful as the more famous Ayous Lakes, perhaps because this walk can only really be done as a round trip. We went there in autumn for the peace and quiet, the beauty of the site and, quite simply, for the colours, the colours!

This easy hike will take us from the Chalets de Laval to the sources of the Clarée and their peat bogs, a real ecological treasure in their mountain setting, and incidentally to the small lake where this pretty river, often celebrated by hikers, has its source.

Deep in the Queyras, at the end of the road that climbs up the Guil, you can easily walk up to these beautiful lakes, set in this glacial valley, with Égorgéou flanked by its little brother Baricle.

Here is a short walk on the edge of the urban area of Pessac, in a tamed but no less pleasant natural setting where you can gain a bit of height thanks to cleverly placed viewing points. A walk you can do with your children, who will find plenty of opportunities to let off steam in a fun way.

An easy walk in the hills above Ceillac, starting on the Gypières trail and returning via the Jalavez woods. This short walk still offers plenty to see, thanks in particular to the information boards along the nature trail and the panoramic views from the Jalavez track.

Starting from a fairly classic walking spot for the residents of Six-Fours, you can enjoy an enriching walk between the wild coast, rock shelters, volcanic rock veins and an old gold mine.

On a stroll through the marshes, port, town and pine forest, enjoy the invigorating air of the Arcachon basin and the charm of the vestiges of the belle époque of this seaside town, which has seen many great moments and preserved many reminders of them.

This easy hike offers beautiful panoramic views, a visit to the old hilltop village of Le Castellet, a walk through a cool valley that would not be out of place in Provence Verte, and finally a stroll through a pleasant neighbourhood of the village of Le Beausset. Please note, however, that most of the route is on tarmac, but on small roads with very little traffic.

If you’re looking for an easy, peaceful walk amongst vineyards and pine trees, or perhaps a picnic sheltered from the wind with a beautiful view before you, this unpretentious walk is for you. Two-thirds of the route is on tarmac, but there’s virtually no traffic. It’s a lovely, peaceful alternative to give your legs a rest, for example, between two more challenging hikes.

Climb up to the sanctuary of Vieux Beausset via the Chemin des Oratoires, then stroll back down along small country roads through terraced olive groves and vineyards. This is a walk that can be done all year round, but I would recommend doing it in spring to appreciate the mildness of the landscape.

Climb above Ollioules and see the witnesses to the country's history: a Celtic-Ligurian oppidum, a medieval castle, a Chappe telegraph, cadastral markers and a water tower. This is what I offer you over a few kilometres on this peaceful walk, which does have a fairly steep incline.

A short urban hike can be enjoyable, especially when the town is called Ollioules. Built in an amphitheatre at the exit of its gorges and spread out across its fertile plain, irrigated by a network that has been skilfully managed since medieval times, Ollioules has a rich heritage that is as varied as it is lovingly preserved. After the relaxing stretch of irrigation channels, the climb may seem arduous, but you will be rewarded by the panoramic views that gradually unfold before you.
