Whether you arrive in Ramatuelle from the road coming from La Foux or from the beach road, head towards the open-air theatre. Opposite the theatre is a very convenient angled car park, deep enough for motorhomes. This is the one we chose, but there are other parking options a little further down, either in parallel parking spaces along the ring road or in the stadium car park.
(S/E) Opposite the car park is the entrance to the theatre. Walk up the road a little and take the steps on the left, at the entrance to which there is a sign indicating "Sentier de la Font d'Avaou - Le Village - La Fontaine". You will then find yourself on a charming landscaped walkway that skirts around and overlooks the open-air theatre, offering views of a pretty fountain and beautiful terraced vegetable gardens, all in a cool, wooded setting.
(1) When you reach Rue Victor Léon, turn left onto this street which descends towards the south, then right onto Rue du Moulin Roux which climbs towards the west.
(2) When this street turns right towards Rue du Clocher, turn left onto the small street (Chemin du Moulin Roux) marked as a dead end. As you leave the village, this street becomes a dirt track. About 600 metres after the village, a track on the left leads to the hamlet of Les Combes Jaffret. A little further on, you will find an old mill (the Moulin Roux, but unfortunately it is on private property of the same name and cannot be visited).
Turn right at the sign for "Chemin des Fanaux" and stay on this beautiful forest track, which initially runs southwards almost horizontally for about a kilometre and a half, before turning right and heading north until it joins the Route des Moulins de Paillas. Take this road to the left for about 200 metres until you reach the junction with the Piste Forestière de Collebasse.
(3) Walk down this track for a few metres and you will find, on the right, one of the paths that runs alongside the road below, towards the Paillas mills.
(4) The path leads to an esplanade at the crossroads between two roads: the one continuing to Gassin on the left and, on the right, the path leading to the radio beacon where the only restored Paillas mill is located. In March 2022, there was no information about visits on the door.
Then, at the crossroads, take the old Route des Moulins de Paillas, indicated by a sign, and follow this path, which starts off as a sunken lane surrounded by cork oaks and tree heath. In many places, the rocky ground has retained the marks left by cart wheels.
The fairly wide path ends at the fence of a private property. Just before this, go straight ahead at a large cluster of butcher's broom at the foot of a holm oak and take a narrow, uneven path.
After a fairly long walk, this path joins a track widely used by mountain bikes. Take this track on the right and follow the mountain bike tracks downhill, while remaining very cautious: although you can hear them coming from a distance, mountain bikes arrive very quickly and you must always be prepared to get out of the way.
(5) The path leads abruptly to Rue du Castellas. From there, climb towards the village via Boulevard du 8 Mai 1945. After the car park at the top of the hill, take the stairs on the left that lead to Rue Georges Clemenceau and climb this street to Place de l'Ormeau.
(6) From Place de l'Ormeau, you can visit the village by strolling through its pretty narrow streets and, once back at the square, head down Rue Victor Léon.
(1) Just below a pretty panoramic terrace on the left side of the street, where there is an orientation table, join the Font d'Avaou promenade and walk down it. The promenade leads to the ring road, where you will find the car park on your right (S/E).
