Short walk in Les Salettes

If you have an hour or two to spare, here is a short walk (tinged with a certain nostalgia) with no other pretensions than to discover or rediscover a corner of Carqueiranne that has not changed too much.

Description of the walk

Coming from the town centre towards the port, just before you reach it, turn left onto Avenue Jules Massenet and park in one of the many parking spaces.

(S/E) With your back to the roundabout, continue along this street for a short distance and turn right onto Impasse Frédéric Chopin, which leads to Square Eugène Tassy near the seafront.

(1) At the other end of the square, go down to the port via a staircase. Walk along the quays and head towards the end of the pier, to the lighthouse, to enjoy a beautiful view of the port and the Salettes seafront.
Return and turn left onto Promenade Marius Coulomb, lined with redeveloped beaches, until you reach the headland known as Pointe de Peno.
Continue along the path between the cliff and the rocks towards Pradon Beach.
When you reach this pretty little beach, walk past the Brise Marine bar and follow the beach to the Bamboo bar at the other end.

(2) Go up to the right via a sloping access road to reach Avenue de la Mer.

(3) Opposite a staircase on the left leading to a car park, turn right at the terraced fields onto Chemin de Peno. At a field where bulb flowers are grown, follow the bend to the left of this path and immediately after, descend to the right to reach the Pointe de Peno promontory. There used to be blockhouses here, but they have now been filled in and buried.

(4) From the viewpoint: a beautiful view of Pradon Beach and the Giens Peninsula, and a memorial to aviators Richet and Tatin. Return to Chemin de Peno and continue towards the port.

(5) Rather than finishing the last few metres of the path, climb the steps on the left that lead up to the upper part of the Peno district, then descend on the right towards Avenue Élie Gautier.
Pass in front of the Hôtel Richiardi (a Salettes institution) and enjoy the harbour promenade (which was under construction when we visited).
Turn left at the roundabout in front of the Hôtel La Réserve (another institution).
A little further on, you will find Avenue Jules Massenet and the car park (S/E) on your right.

Notes

Walk completed in April 2025.

There are no difficulties on this walk (which is the right word for it), and it can be done in all weathers, except perhaps on stormy days on the path between Pointe de Peno and Le Pradon.

It's the ideal walk for taking your dog out, going for a morning jog or stretching your legs after a good meal in one of the restaurants in Les Salettes. It can be bright when the weather is fine, or invigorating in the rain or wind.

Worth a visit

For those who want to open their eyes and their hearts, this walk offers a wealth of sights and experiences within just a few kilometres: the charm and activity of the small port, its shops and restaurants, the wildness of the Peno and Pradon coastline, the old-fashioned elegance of a few old villas, the panorama from the Pointe de Peno, not to mention the enchantment of the flowers grown on the terraces when they bloom in spring and summer.
