The starting point is located at Place des Terreaux in front of the Palais Saint Pierre (Lyon Museum of Fine Arts).
(S/E) Cross Place des Terreaux, keeping to the left. Take Rue Sainte-Marie-des-Terreaux. After crossing Rue Sainte-Catherine, climb a few steps to reach Place des Capucins. Turn left onto Rue des Capucins, then quickly turn right onto Montée de la Grande Cote. At Rue Burdeau, turn left.
(1) You will arrive at the Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls. Take the stairs on the right, which will lead you to Rue des Tables Claudiennes a little further up. Take this street on the right until you reach Rue Pouteau and follow it to the right. At the junction with Rue Burdeau, go almost straight ahead to take Passage Thiaffait (via a few steps downhill). Turn left onto Rue René Leynaud, then right onto Rue Saint-Polycarpe (Rue de l'Abbé Rozier on the map).
(2) We are now at Place du Forez (a round square): turn left onto Rue des Capucins and continue to number 22. Enter the building's alleyway on the right (if the door is closed, press the service button on the intercom): this is a traboule leading to Rue Coustou. At the exit, turn left, then right onto Rue Romarin. Then turn left onto Rue de la Terraille, then left again onto Rue Saint-Claude. Turn right onto Place du Griffon, left onto Rue du Griffon, then right onto Rue Lorette: at the end, take the passageway, which is clearly marked.
(3) We are now at Place Croix-Paquet: turn left, then right, then left again to take Rue René Leynaud to Passage Mermet (on the right). After a few steps (going uphill), turn right onto Rue Burdeau. Quite quickly, take the right-hand flight of steps on the left to reach Place Chardonnet above.
After crossing the square, turn right onto Rue des Tables Claudiennes until you reach No. 55 (on the left): enter the alleyway of the building corresponding to a traboule. This leads to Rue Imbert Colomès. Almost opposite (No. 29), enter the alleyway to take another traboule. Continue a little further and enter another building passageway (almost straight ahead on the left) where you will need to climb a few steps.
(4) You are now in the Cours des Voraces. At the exit, you will reach Place Colbert: walk along the left side of the square. At the end, turn right (down a few steps), then left onto Rue Bodin. Quite quickly, take a passageway on the right that leads to Rue Magneval. Almost opposite, continue downhill (Rue Adomoli).
Turn left onto Rue des Fantasques, which overlooks the Croix Rousse Tunnel (a beautiful viewpoint over Lyon's 6th arrondissement on the Rhône side). At the end, turn left onto Rue Philibert Delorme, then right onto Rue Magneval (up a few steps) to reach Place Bellevue. Cross the street and enter the park.
(5) At the "summit" we are at Gros Caillou (Boulevard de la Croix Rousse). Turn right (north) and continue straight on Rue de Belfort. A little further on, turn left onto Rue d'Ivry (where you can visit the Maison des Canuts museum if you wish), then right onto Rue du Mail. At the end of this street, turn left onto Rue Pailleron.
(6) We arrive at the intersection of Rue Hénon and Grande Rue de la Croix-Rousse. Optionally, you can visit the Jardin Rosa Mir, which is well worth a visit (see below). Take Grande Rue de la Croix-Rousse on the left, then turn right onto Rue Rosset, then left onto Rue de Cuire, then right onto Rue Pelletier, and then right again onto Boulevard des Canuts.
(7) We are now in front of the Fresque des Canuts. Turn left onto Rue Denfert-Rochereau. At Rue Jacquard, turn left. Immediately after, take Avenue Cabias on the right, then Rue Perrod on the left. Once you reach Place des Tapis, take Rue Victor-Fort (pedestrian zone).
(8) We are now at Place de la Croix Rousse. Between a café and the Crédit Agricole bank, take a small passageway leading to an old gate in the city of Lyon (round trip). Please note that access is currently limited (see below).
(8) Back at Place de la Croix Rousse, cross Boulevard de la Croix Rousse (on your left) and take Rue des Pierres Plantées opposite.
(9) You will find yourself on a terrace overlooking the Montée de la Grande-Cote. Retrace your steps a little to reach Rue du Bon Pasteur and follow it to the left. At the Montée du Lieutenant Allouche, turn right and take the stairs (going uphill).
Once at the top, go straight on Rue Saint-François d'Assise, then left onto Rue de Crimée. At the end of the street, turn right onto Rue de Vauzelles.
Once you reach Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse, turn left and continue for just under 300 metres. Turn left onto Rue de la Tourette, then right onto Rue Saint-Bruno, then right again onto Rue des Chartreux.
Turn left onto Rue Pierre Dupont, passing in front of the Church of Saint-Bruno-les-Chartreux. A little further on, turn right onto Rue Dominique Perfetti to reach Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse. Turn left to quickly cross the boulevard, then take Rue Bony almost opposite. Continue along this street for about 200 metres, then turn left onto Rue Chazière.
(10) Shortly afterwards, you will reach Parc de la Cerisaie. Cross the park to reach Montée des Esses below: take this hill on the left, then continue straight on Rue la Poudriellère, and, at the top of Fort Saint-Jean, continue straight on Montée de la Butte.
Go straight on along Cours Général Giraud (with its beautiful balcony overlooking the Saône), then along Place Rouville (with its house of 365 windows) and continue straight on along Rue de l'Annonciade.
Turn right onto Rue du Jardin des Plantes, then quickly take the stairs downhill to reach Rue Fernand Rey, which you follow. Shortly afterwards, turn right onto Rue Bouteille, then left into a passageway leading to Rue Sergent Blandin. Turn left onto Rue Pareille
(11). We are now in front of the Fresque des Lyonnais. Turn left onto Rue de la Martinière, then right onto Place Tobie Robatel. Turn left onto Rue d'Algérie to return to Place des Terreaux (S/E).
