Description of the walk

Start: Place de la Liberté, behind Bron Town Hall.

(S/E) Take Avenue Franklin Roosevelt to the left (east) as far as the police station.

(1) Turn left onto Rue Michel Lacroix, then immediately right onto Rue de Prévieux; follow this road up to Avenue de Lattre de Tassigny. Cross the avenue to enter the Fort de Bron park, arriving in front of the fort entrance.

(2) Go round the fort on the left and follow the path. Exit onto Avenue Général de Gaulle, cross it and take Rue de Rebufer, which leads to the Espace Albert Camus. Turn right and, in front of the Trésorerie Générale, take the pedestrian path on the left, following it until you reach Avenue du 8 mai 1945, opposite the Grand Frais shop.

(3) Go left under the motorway and cross the avenue towards Parilly Park. Enter via the Place du Monument aux Morts des guerres coloniales and continue along Boulevard Emile Bollaert. Walk past the water tower and over Boulevard Laurent Bonnevay, crossing two bridges. Walk down Boulevard Bollaert, then turn left onto Rue Lionel Terray until you reach Avenue Mermoz.

(4) Cross it at the pedestrian crossing to enter Parc des Essarts. Cross the park heading north, arriving at Rue des Essarts. Cross to the opposite side to take Rue des Sycomores, then continue along Rue Pierre Bourdan until you reach Avenue Franklin Roosevelt.

(5) Turn left onto it until the junction with Boulevard Pinel, then turn right onto the boulevard. Walk along the wall of the Vinatier Nord-Est hospital. Go straight on past the junction with Avenue Lacassagne, turn left at the next junction onto Rue Trarieux, then immediately right onto Impasse Pommier, which leads to Parc Chambovet.

(6) Walk around the park in either direction. Leave Parc Chambovet via the same route, go back up Impasse Pommier and then Boulevard Pinel. Turn left onto Avenue F. Roosevelt and return to the junction you passed earlier.

(5) Continue straight along Avenue Franklin Roosevelt to Bron Town Hall, the starting point of this route (S/E).

Notes

Easy urban walk. Just take care when crossing the main avenues (Roosevelt and Mermoz).
Bring drinking water; there are no shops along the route, except for Grand Frais (3).

Worth a visit

At Fort de Bron: the path goes all the way round, so there’s no risk of getting lost.
In Parilly, you can head down towards the racecourse: on a race day, you’ll be able to see the horses.
The Essarts neighbourhood is residential and some of the houses are very pretty.
Chambovet Park is a small, pleasant, family-friendly park.
The T2 and T5 trams run along Avenue Franklin Roosevelt.
(5) From here, in case of bad weather, you can return to Bron by tram.

An urban route through peaceful, green surroundings, except for the section between Parc des Essarts and Parc Chambovet, which is noisy and could perhaps be removed.

The route is very pleasant, set amongst greenery. I would add to point 2, after “Exit onto Avenue Général de Gaulle”, at the Bron Memorial.
At point 3, after “Enter via the Place du Monument aux Morts des Guerres Coloniales”, turn left immediately after Boulevard Emile Bollaert to walk alongside the racecourse. At the end of the racecourse, turn right to rejoin Boulevard Emile Bollaert near the water tower. This avoids the tarmac.
We can take an alternative route at point 5: instead of turning left towards Chambovet Park, we can turn right to return to the starting point at Bron Town Hall. This shortens the route to 8.5 km instead of 10.71 km.

Hello,

I did this walk on a Sunday afternoon, so it was quiet, especially when crossing several boulevards. It was a bit confusing at the start. Wouldn’t it be better to say: facing the town hall on Avenue F. Roosevelt, head east towards the police station. Another point of confusion: on Boulevard Emile Bollaert, following the paths through Parilly Park would be simpler. Otherwise, no problems.
Thank you for this city walk.

Good evening,
I did part of this route this afternoon and it allowed me to discover some streets, the Fort de Bron and a part of Parilly Park that I didn’t know.
Very pleasant. I used my Nordic walking poles.
When I reached Chambovet Park, I didn’t head back towards Bron but carried on towards the centre of Lyon and the public transport!
It’s also possible to do a circular route in the Vinatier Hospital Park.
Thank you for this discovery
