Park in the car park below the church of Saint-Germain-au-Mont-d'Or, Rue du Manoir.
(S/E) Take Rue de l'Église. At the crossroads, cross Rue du 8 Mai and take Rue du Lavoir, which leads to an old wash house.
(1) After the wash house, turn left and follow Rue du Lurin, which continues uphill to the left around the bend. At the next crossroads, leave Rue du Lurin and take a small street on the right, which turns into a path after about 100 metres. At the crossroads, take the path on the left, which becomes a grassy track, crossing several fields to reach the woods. After walking about 200 metres through the woods, take the path that climbs to the left. At the next crossroads, follow the path that goes to the right to the edge of a field.
(2) Enter the edge of the field to reach the path that leads into the woods. At the crossroads, follow the path on the left which runs along the edge of the field for about ten metres. This path does not appear on any map but is clearly marked. After a small stony mound near an oak tree, it runs along the edge of the field for about twenty metres before entering the woods again. (This point is not very visible on the map).
At the next crossroads, turn right to reach the Croix Rampau and its orientation table. From there, weather permitting, you can see Mont Blanc and, on the north side (paragliding take-off point), enjoy a view of the Saône plain and the Beaujolais region.
(3) Leave Croix Rampau via the path that descends southwards and joins another larger path. Follow it to the right. Here you will find several picnic tables. On the right-hand side of the path, you can see the ruins of the Ampère Mill. At the crossroads with the tarmac road, turn left and follow the road for about 300 metres to reach the Risler Tower (12th century).
(4) Take the path that climbs to the right before the tower. At the end of this path, follow the small street and turn right at the crossroads. Follow this street, which runs alongside the hamlet of Le Robiat on the left, until you reach the edge of the woods. Take the path on the left, which starts near an electricity pole with a chicane and climbs into the woods. At the first crossroads, take the path on the right which runs almost horizontally and follows the street you have just left. The first part of the path is not marked on any map but is very well marked. Follow it to the edge of a property. Turn left and follow the path to the corner of the property, then turn left again. After about 100 metres, leave the path that branches off to the right.
After a left turn, the path opens onto a clearing. Stay on the path that follows the edge of the clearing and follow the signs for "Sentier géologique des monts d'Or: Chasselay". This path leads to a small tarmac road.
(5) Mont Py is located on military land and is not accessible. Follow the small road that goes around the military land on the left and passes about 60 metres from Mont Py. Follow this little-used road until you reach a left-hand bend (about 600 metres). Take the small path that dips to the right (marked "Sentier géologique des monts d'Or: Chasselay") and follow it for 600 metres.
(6) The path has been laid out to follow the bed of a small stream that is often dry. Turn right at the end of the path. Leave the "Sentier géologique" signposting and take the path, which is rutted for a few dozen metres, descending between the trees. After 900 metres, following a slightly steeper descent, turn left. Follow this path for just over a kilometre to reach the junction with a stony track. At the junction, turn right and follow the track for 200 metres.
(7) Take the small path on the left that leads to the Hermitage. A signpost indicates the Hermitage at the entrance to the small path, but this signpost may not be very visible due to the vegetation when arriving from this direction.
Go to the Hermitage and continue your visit a little further. See an old drying shed with a bench where you can take a break.
At the end of your visit, return along the small path to the stony path and continue on the left. This path quickly becomes grassy and then tarmac. Stay on it until you reach the intersection with another path on the left that descends towards Saint-Germain. Turn left. A few dozen metres further on, you will see an old wash house with its spring coming out from under the rocks.
(8) Follow the path towards Saint-Germain. It runs alongside fields and the old quarries of Saint-Germain. Part of the quarries has been levelled.
About a hundred metres after the junction with a dirt track on the left, take the grassy path on the left that descends between fields. It is bordered by a hedge on the left.
When you reach the edge of a sloping field with a view of part of Saint-Germain, take the path that runs horizontally to the right and leads into a small wood. This path joins and follows an access road to various properties. This path joins Rue Renardon.
(9) Turn right and follow the street to the Saint-Germain wash house.
(1) Turn left onto Rue du Lavoir, then take the Passage de Font-Chalin on the left. This passage narrows as it runs alongside a stream and passes under an old house. It leads to Rue du 8 Mai 1945. Turn right onto Rue du 8 Mai, then take the first street on the left, Rue de l'Église, to return to the starting point (S/E).
