Parking: park on Place de la Poype in Montanay.
(S/E) Head towards Rue Centrale and turn left.
(1) Pass in front of the Croix du Mathieu and continue along Rue Centrale, heading down towards Neuville.
(2) In the large bend, turn left onto Rue du Villard. Ignore Chemin de la Tour on the right, then a dead end, and turn right into the next street, Rue du Panorama, which bends to the left further on.
(3) Turn right onto Chemin de la Barmelle, which quickly turns into a stony path through fields. Beautiful views of the Monts d'Or. Continue straight ahead on the path for just over a kilometre, passing a water tower.
(4) When you reach a fork with a picnic area (see photo), take the path on the left. Cross wooded areas on slopes (combes du ruisseau des Échets) and stay on the route that does not descend into these combes. Cross one or two steep sections on a dirt path, which is not recommended in wet weather.
(5) Back on the plateau in the middle of the fields, turn left to return to Montanay. Turn right at the first crossroads, then ignore a path on the left and continue to the next crossroads (elevation 276).
Turn right, then left onto the first path, which climbs steadily along the edge of the fields towards the village. When you reach the first houses in the village, turn left onto Rue des Dîmes and walk up towards the centre of the village.
(6) Turn left onto Rue Centrale. As you pass, admire the beautiful church built of Monts d'Or stone and alternating strips of pebbles, the oldest part dating back to the 9th century. Return to the starting point at Place de la Poype (small shops, pharmacy) (S/E).
