Tour of the vineyards of the Savoyard hinterland.

At the foot of the largest cliff in the French Alps, autumn hike from the village of Saint-André to Lac Noir.From Atrus (village of Bellecombette) to Lac Noir, then from Lac Noir to the village of Lachat, the route follows a section of the Sentier des HuguenotsGR®®965.

This loop starts in Brison and climbs to the Croix de Meyrieu, then follows the ridge line to La Chambotte and returns to the starting point via a path through old vineyards. This walk offers numerous views of Lake Bourget.

For a change from the Gallopaz, a slightly wilder route in the same area.

This loop starting from the village of Grésin allows you to discover the site where the Italian engineer Galetti installed his harp antenna. Today, the site on the edge of a cliff offers a beautiful view of the Rhône canalised between the departments of Savoie and Ain. It then follows a section of the Way of St James. The route is dotted with shells, of course, but also with stone and metal crosses.

This circular walk starting from the village of Billième in the Savoyard foothills allows you to explore the region’s vineyards and take in some panoramic views.In autumn, along the path there’s a chestnut tree here, a walnut tree there – your pockets won’t be big enough for all the fruit you’ll gather. In the vineyards, the grape-pickers will surely have left a few grapes behind. If a hiker tries to slip off the path discreetly, follow them – it means they know a spot for mushrooms.

An easy hike on the eastern slope of the Épine mountain, taking the Roman road and the Sardinian road.

Short snowshoe hike to a peak in the north of the Chartreuse, which offers beautiful views to the south over the remarkable peaks of the Chartreuse and to the north over those of the Bauges. Clear markings and signs; no difficulty in finding your way.

The Mont Grêle lookout point and Archelle’s summit. Mont Grêle is a peak that is visible from the valley of Chambéry and the Aiguebelette region. It is easily spotted thanks to or because of the pylons that are installed at the top. Up close, these towers have still look great, but they do not alone justify the purpose of the tour, which is interesting because it offers views over Lake Aiguebelette and Chartreuse.

A lovely little snowshoe hike to the Chalets de la Fullie from Ecole en Bauges. All the more beautiful when there is plenty of snow. The route is well marked with no difficulty in finding your way.

A beautiful snowshoe hike on the edge of the Grande Chartreuse Monastery, accompanied by the legendary peaks of Grand Som and Chamechaude. Choose a sunny day after a snowfall.

The Crêt de la Dolca via La Revêche and Les Trois Bornes. This description leads to the Crêt de la Dolca; this peak is not marked as such on the IGN map—there is only an altitude of 1434—but on the ground it is signposted with this name. This is a route that often strays from the marked paths, so you really need to use the map to find your way.

Route of snowshoes on the vast Retord Plateau. The Retord plateau has been gently taken over by cross-country ski trails and snowshoe paths. As its name suggests, the Retord Plateau is ideal for long walks without much elevation gain.

The teepee village is a lively place in both summer and winter, located near the access road to Le Revard from Aix Les Bains. But for us snowshoers, it's a destination for a walk on the pleasant Savoie Grand Revard plateau, starting from the Nordic centre of Saint François de Sales.

Snowshoe circuit on the vast Glières Plateau. Besides the historical aspect, the Glières Plateau is interesting to visit because the mountains that surround it are strong points of reference.

A hike in the southern foothills of the Bauges mountains to discover the vineyards, winegrowers' huts and landscapes. Well-appointed viewpoints tell the story of the local history. Generous panoramic views of the region's mountains, including Mont Blanc. The route is well signposted.

A journey through both geological time and history, exploring the medieval village of Sauve and the chaos of the Mer des Rochers.

A lovely late summer walk in Belledonne. From the start, there is a superb view of the Bauges Massif. There is also a small orientation table at the start.

A lovely hike in the Lauzière massif, with views of the peaks and glaciers of the Vanoise, not to mention the inevitable Mont Blanc. You will also recognise the characteristic silhouette of the Cheval Noir along the way.

A beautiful hike in a wild area of Belledonne. With a bit of luck, you may encounter streams, lakes and trout, blueberries, marmots and chamois.

A pleasant walk to the Col de Basmont (1,791m), to fill your bag with blueberries, with the added bonus of views over the Beaufortin, the Chartreuse, Belledonne and the Aravis, amongst others.

It is undoubtedly its proximity to Annecy that makes this mountain a place where hikers can find comfort after a more or less strenuous hike.

This easy hike in summer becomes more difficult with the onset of winter conditions. A few centimetres of snow are enough to cover the markings on the ground and make it harder to progress on the steeper sections. This hike can be done in half a day from mid-November onwards, but don't set off after 2pm, otherwise you'll need a head torch for the return journey.

An autumn walk in the Avant Pays Savoyard, to see something other than mountains, even if Mont Colombier is omnipresent throughout the hike.

A walk to revisit the classics near Chambéry.

In December, a good idea for a sunny walk is to go hiking in the vineyards. The walk described below is just one of many possible routes through the Chignin vineyards. There are endless variations possible.

A snowshoe hike enhanced by a stop at the Creux de Lachat refuge. It's always an opportunity to meet someone, even if it's just the caretaker. Panoramic views of Les Bauges and, further away, Les Aravis and Mont Blanc.

A snowshoe circuit in the Entremonts valley. It is a loop alternating between ascents and descents, passages through forests and mountain pastures, shady slopes and sunny slopes, crossing the hamlet of Grand Carroz with its few houses.

This walk in the Savoyard foothills runs alongside the vineyards of this region. Vineyards are synonymous with well-exposed plots.

A classic loop for a quick walk. This route is well marked in both summer and winter.

Snowshoe route on a sunny slope in the Entremont valley. This route combines well-marked sections with others that are a little more open. In winter, this route is normally done on snowshoes. This was a snowshoe outing, but given the lack of snow at the end of January 2014, the snowshoes remained attached to our rucksacks.

The appeal of this outing is not so much the chalet itself, but the small hill nearby, which offers a panoramic view of the region's peaks. It is also an opportunity to enjoy a beautiful hike on the plateau.

A circular route starting from Col de la Cluse (1170m), combining a wild route on the way there and a classic trail on the way back. This outing is not very difficult, but can be a little physically demanding at times when you have to break trail in 40cm of powder snow.

A walk for Sunday afternoon. This hike takes place on the western slope of Gros Foug mountain above the village of Serrières-en-Chautagne. It features various themes: tuff quarry, mountain land restoration, vineyards. Add to that the presence of the Rhône and Mont Colombier. Excellent signposting and numerous directional signs.

La Cochette in Chartreuse (1,618 m) is an easily accessible peak.

L'Orionde is not the best known or most popular spot on this circuit, but it offers panoramic views to the east and west. The most famous site is, of course, the Croix du Nivolet, which, for once, happens to be on the route. All in all, a beautiful loop with a succession of panoramic views.

A snowshoe hike in the sunshine on an unmarked route. If it has not snowed for several days, simply follow the main trail. Otherwise, follow the description.

This is a lovely route with beautiful views, which can be enjoyed in both summer and winter. It can be done in either direction. This is a very popular area.

This easy walk has already been described by Bernardino, so the following is only a variation. There are no specific markings for snowshoes; the summer markings are sufficient.

A lovely route in Chartreuse in an area famous for its monastery. It is very popular, but there is room for everyone. There are no markings between Pont des Allemands and Habert de Billon.

This could be the last snowshoe outing of the season. Above all, it's an excuse to visit the new (2012) and elegant Refuge du Stream du Beurre at 2,080 metres. The old refuge is also full of charm.

The Mont Saint-Michel Chapel, which is clearly visible from the Chambéry basin, is often the destination for a Sunday afternoon walk starting from Montmerlet above Curienne. There is only a hundred metres or so of elevation gain. The trail is very well marked.

The village's main attraction in the summer is, of course, the small Lac de la Thuile lake. For hikers, the other attraction is the Roche du Guet, a pretty viewpoint equipped with two orientation tables.

It is almost a suburban walk, not too busy during the week. And yet you are already in the Bauges with its characteristic buildings. From the start to the waterfall, you are on theGR®96. Then, from the pass to the ridge trail via Mont Peney, you are on the GRP®.
