Description of the walk

Park on the outskirts of Barbizet when approaching from La Motte-Servolex (Route des Granges).

(S/E) At the start, at the first junction you come to, do not head towards the Haras du Murger but follow the quiet Route des Granges to the hamlet of Les Granges du Villard.

(1) In the hamlet, leave the road and head straight ahead, descending along the stony path, following the yellow markings to the finish. After passing some isolated buildings, you will reach the hamlet of Le Villard.

(2) In the hamlet, at a signpost marked ‘turn left – Yellow’, follow the direction indicated. The path heads due north, initially crossing an area of farmland: vineyards and orchards. It then narrows as it overlooks a small valley. After a short descent, you’ll reach Nant des Combes: there’s a signpost here.

(3) Cross the Ruisseau des Combes, then head uphill opposite, ignoring the paths branching off to the left and right. Alternating between footpath and track, the route runs alongside a woodland with a lovely view of Lake Bourget. You’ll reach the edge of the woodland.

(4) Turn sharply left and begin a gentle climb to reach the plateau (elevation 464). Turn right once, then, after passing the stud farm, turn right a second time and, 200 m further on, you’ll reach the car park (S/E).

A lovely, easy walk with beautiful scenery. The section along the road isn’t a bother at all, as it’s so tucked away in the countryside, with lovely old barns – though they’re closed. That said, the walk shouldn’t take more than an hour and a half (if you take your time).

The start of the route is along a road, but there is little traffic, and it offers views of beautiful scenery
The snow-capped Belledonne range lies ahead, and if you look back, you can see Lake Bourget
We extended the route slightly by adding a short circular loop to take a tree-lined path, given the heat, bringing the total distance to 7.10 km
