(S/E) From the car park (sign for “Le Merdaret 1100 m”), take the track leading off to the left and, 50 m further on, take a path to the left (yellow markings). The climb is steep. You will reach a Y-junction at around 1340 m.
(1) Leave the track that descends to the right and continue the steep climb to reach a junction at around 1,480 m: signposted “l’Embarollin”.
(2) Continue the climb to the left along a path that remains within the forest. Pass the Premier Chalet de la Petite Valloire, then, at around 1,780 m, the Deuxième Chalet de la Petite Valloire or Chalet de la Fouetterie. The latter includes a refuge area (unmanned). From the chalet, head towards the sign visible above.
(3) Turn left towards Lac de Léat. The climb continues in open country to the 1994 m point, where the remains of a wooden signpost can still be seen.
(4) Start the descent by following the GR®® trail.
(5) Pass close to the Deuxième Chalet de Tigneux, then continue the descent along a winding path to the Crêt du Tambour junction.
(6) Leave theGR®® here, heading towards Lac du Léat, and turn left onto the path which soon enters the forest.
(7) Reach the Premier Chalet de Tigneux, go past it and continue the descent. Join a track, follow it briefly, then turn left onto a path (yellow markings), which will cross the track twice before finally joining it for good.
(8) Turn left. The car park is now less than 200 m away (S/E).
