Montagne de Tigneux

A good hike that can be done from spring to autumn when snow conditions prevent you from going higher. However, you will be close to 2000 m.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the car park (signposted "Le Merdaret 1100 m"), take the track that branches off to the left and, 50 m further on, take a path on the left (yellow markings). The climb is steep. You will reach a Y-junction at around 1340 m.

(1) Leave the track that descends to the right and continue the steep climb until you reach a crossroads at around 1480 m: signposted "l'Embarollin".

(2) Continue climbing to the left on a path that remains in the forest. Pass the Premier Chalet de la Petite Valloire, then at around 1780 m, the Deuxième Chalet de la Petite Valloire or Chalet de la Fouetterie. The latter includes a refuge (unmanned). From the chalet, head for the sign that can be seen above.

(3) Turn left towards Lac de Léat. The climb continues in open terrain to the 1994 m point, where the remains of a wooden sign can be seen.

(4) Begin the descent, following the GR®. Pass close to the Deuxième Chalet de Tigneux and continue downhill on a diagonal path to the Crêt du Tambour crossroads.

(5) Leave theGR® here towards Lac du Léat and take the path on the left, which will soon enter the forest. Reach the Premier Chalet de Tigneux, pass it and continue the descent. Join a track, follow it briefly and then take a path on the left (yellow markings), which will rejoin the track twice before finally joining it again.

(6) Turn left. The car park is now less than 200 m away (S/E).

Drivable track for a compact SUV. Steep climb through the woods, leading to fields of blueberries and purple heather. Visit to the very comfortable chalet/refuge at Petite Valloire/Fouetteries, where the Tous à Poêle association does a great job. Extension of the hike to Lake Léat for a picnic, an extra 20 minutes there and back. Unobstructed view of the Belledonne peaks. Encountered a deer on the descent. No difficulty on the route.

This hike offers exceptional views. However, it should be noted that it is difficult. The pass is not without danger for those who are afraid of heights, and the descent is steep and sometimes dangerous. The hike is suitable for experienced hikers. A magnificent hike.

A very beautiful hike. We started lower down on a fairly passable road, so we ended up covering 8.5 kilometres with an elevation gain of 910 metres. There were some beautiful chalets along the route and Lake Léat as a bonus. A magnificent day 👍⛰️☀️🥾

A very pleasant route. Bring containers to pick the raspberries that grow abundantly along the entire route, and blueberries to a lesser extent.
A beautiful variety of terrain and forest types.
The Fouetteries chalet at 1,779 metres is maintained by the Tous à Poêle association https://www.tousapoele.org/nos-cabanes/b...
The same goes for the Lac du Lea chalet https://www.tousapoele.org/nos-cabanes/b...
Many thanks to them.
