Park when you reach the pass near the road sign indicating: Col du Mont Cenis.
(S/E) Start on the clearly visible path to the right of the road, which climbs up through the mountain pastures. Cross two small ledges equipped with cables to reach Petite Turra (at the foot of Fort de la Turra).
(1) Continue straight ahead, taking the time to explore the grounds of the Old Fort de la Turra and enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
(2) Then return to the platform.
(1) Take the wide track that starts to climb southwards, quickly leaving behind a branch that descends into the valley towards the Suffet refuge. Continue climbing towards the old barracks, which are clearly visible.
Note the old cable car installations that used to supply the fort. Continue along the track to the first hairpin bend.
(3) Leave the track for a small path on the left, which allows you to avoid a long detour, then rejoin it at a hairpin bend. It will soon end and turn into a good path. Higher up, you will have to cross a few scree slopes before reaching the Pas de la Beccia at an altitude of 2717 metres.
(4) If you haven't already done so, take out your walking poles and begin the descent via a series of tight, steep hairpin bends, while enjoying the view of the lake. You will reach a junction called Le Laro.
(5) At this point, leave the path to the Petit Mont Cenis refuge, which is clearly visible on the descent. Continue the descent by turning left and you will reach a fork at an altitude of 2,105 metres.
(6) Turn left and continue north on theGRP® Tour de la Haute Maurienne. The descent is now less steep, and the trail runs alongside the small road overlooking the lake, eventually joining it.
(7) The route is now obvious. Return to the Col du Mont Cenis via the small road first, then via the D1006: take care on both as there is heavy traffic, especially at weekends. Return to the car park (S/E).
