Parking at the Châtelet car park in the resort of Le Mottaret.
(S/E) From the car park, head south towards Lac de Tuéda. Pass the lake and continue along the lovely path at the bottom of the valley. Shortly afterwards, you’ll reach a junction.
(1) Turn left towards the Refuge du Saut. You will soon reach and pass the Refuge du Plan. A short descent leads to a wooden bridge.
(2) Cross the bridge and turn left immediately afterwards. A few shortcuts allow you to bypass the hairpin bends on the track. Climb up the stony track. Then head into the Vallon du Fruit. Continue for a long stretch, staying at the bottom of the valley on the main route.
(3) Pass the Chalet de la Plagne; the path is easy to walk on, then the valley narrows. After a short steep climb, staying on the track that runs alongside the stream and the Vanoise National Park, you’ll reach the Refuge du Saut.
(4) At the refuge, take the small path on the right towards the Col du Soufre. Head up the valley, keeping the Doron des Allues on your left. Cross it via a double wooden footbridge at an altitude of 2,450m.
(5) Here, leave the route to the Col du Soufre and head due east along a well-defined but unmarked path.
Head towards a small footbridge.
(6) Cross the footbridge and continue along the path, which will begin to climb steeply. Pass a first small lake at the foot of a waterfall and, after another short climb, reach the first Lac du Mont Coua.
(7) Return to the car park (S/E) via the same route.
