Le Valtin walks

Start by walking through this typical Vosges village. Continue up a challenging climb which, once reached the top, offers a breathtaking panorama of the Valtin glacial valley. Next, literature takes centre stage with over a dozen information panels featuring quotations from great authors: Hugo, Baudelaire, Chateaubriand, Musset and others, leading you to the banks of the Meurthe, which, at this point, is a veritable little torrent. Finish with a peaceful return to the town hall and the village church.

This hike takes you to the Hautes Chaumes in the Tanet-Gazon du Faing Nature Reserve, starting on the Vosges side via the Ruhlock trail along a stream and returning via the Rudlin waterfall.There are beautiful views from the ridges over Lac Blanc and Lac des Truites or Lac du Forlet.

By making a loop from the Étang des Dames, you can quickly reach the Rudlin Waterfall. This is a pretty waterfall about ten metres high, accessible via a path through the woods from the bottom of the valley.

A magnificent circuit on the Vosges ridges with views of the Black Forest and, on clear, dry days, the Alps. 400 m of paved road, the rest on trails or wide paths.

Lac Vert (1,044 m) owes its name to the colour it takes on in summer due to the proliferation of algae. Lac des Truites (or Forlet) is the highest lake in the Vosges mountains at 1,066 m. Both are located in former glacial cirques dominated by the Hautes Chaumes.

Starting from the Route des Crêtes between the Col du Calvaire and the Col de la Schlucht, this walk begins with a panoramic view of Lac du Forlet from the Crête du Gazon du Faing. The route continues, alternating between woodland and open terrain, taking you to discover Lac Noir, Lac du Forlet (also known as Lac des Truites) and Lac Vert.

This easy loop allows you to discover Tanet, one of the most beautiful peaks in the Vosges, with stunning views and the Haut-Fourneau stone cairns. In late June or early July, you can also enjoy the mountain flowers. The return journey is sheltered by Lac Vert.

A walk along the ridges of the Hautes-Vosges, taking in both well-known and lesser-known paths. The route passes near three lakes and offers magnificent views of the Alsace plain, the Black Forest and the Alps on clear days. Plenty of blueberries in season.

A good climb to get you warmed up as you start this tour in the woods, with several sumptuous panoramic views of the Haute Meurthe woods, before continuing on through the Rupt Frémiat and finishing your route at the Vierge de Haute Suisse.

A lovely little family circular path to discover Lac Vert nestled in the heart of the Vosges pine trees.

Starting from the car park at the Auberge du Gazon du Faing, this circular route links three glacial lakes, each with its own distinct character: Lac Blanc, the largest, dominated by the Rocher du Hans and the Belmont Observatory; Lac Noir, wilder and more enclosed; and Lac du Forlet (or Lac des Truites), nestled in a spectacular glacial cirque at an altitude of over 1,060 metres, the highest lake in the Vosges. Between the three lakes, the trail crosses the Gazon du Faing, a nature reserve of tall grasslands and peat bogs, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Vosges ridges. Around ten kilometres of varied trails, through woodland, along ridges and over rocky outcrops, making for one of the most beautiful hikes in the region.

A beautiful, challenging hike in the Vosges mountains, taking the Sentier des Roches and the Couloirs trails and the lesser-known climb up to the Col de Falimont from Frankental, then going around the Petit Hohneck via the Schiessroth and returning via the Hohneck and the Trois Fours. The Sentier des Roches is a hiking trail in the Vosges mountains.In 1910, Heinrich Strohmeyer, general warden of the Water and Forestry Department and president of the Club Vosgien de Munster, proposed the creation of a trail linking the Col de Schlucht to Frankenthal near Hohneck.The Sentier des Roches is one of the most popular trails in the Vosges mountains.Please note: this hike is closed in winter (see practical information below).

This hike, which follows the marked trails of the Club Vosgien, will allow you to discover the forest, lakes, Hautes Chaumes... the Hautes Vosges. The numerous picnic spots and the warm welcome you will receive at the various farm inns will make your walk even more enjoyable.

A lovely walk, partly through woodland and partly out in the open along the ridges, with superb panoramic views over the valley. The terrain is, however, very rocky and is not recommended for beginners. You can opt to go via the Hirschsteine rather than following the ridge.

The Sentier des Roches is one of the most popular trails in the Vosges. With its incredible views and steep sections, it is a mountain trail. It links the Col de la Schlucht to the Frakenthal cirque. The rest of the walk follows the Sentier de la Bloy, which is narrower but greener. This trail leads to the Gaschney ski resort. The route then continues in open country, climbing – at times over very stony ground – to the Hohneck, the third-highest peak in the Vosges. From the summit, there is a 360° view across the entire Vosges range. The rest of the route is then a simple matter of making your way back to the Col de la Schlucht.

Starting point at the Col de la Schlucht car park.This is a very strenuous hike. Good equipment and physical condition are recommended!

This beautiful hike combines technical and physical sections and takes you along the famous Sentier des Roches trail to Lac du Schiessrothried and then Lac de Fischboedle. Please note: this hike is for experienced walkers. There are many steep slopes and some sections are dangerous, particularly for children. Risk of falls. Hiking is prohibited in winter (see practical information below) Please note 2: following a comment by "sdegrande" on 17/07/2024: "following a prefectural order, the trail from (11) is closed until further notice due to the risk of rockfalls." From (8), you can take a shortcut to go directly to (13) via the Blue Triangle trail. This trail is about 1 km long and quite steep. If you do not feel comfortable walking it, you can take a shortcut from (7) to go directly to (13) via the Blue Rectangle trail.

A very beautiful hike, taking in some remarkable sights: the Martinswand rocks, the summit of the Hohneck, the summit of the Kastelberg and the Grand Ballon (with the ‘Boule’ at the summit).

A legendary hike and probably – indeed, certainly – one of the most beautiful in the Vosges Mountains! Running along a ridge above the Munster Valley with breathtaking natural views. On part of the circular route, the path is carved into the rock face, with ladders and handrails along the route. Sure-footedness, good walking boots and walking poles are essential. This is a shorter version than the many others that exist, designed to favour the shade provided by the vegetation and which, on very hot days, avoids the exposed climb via the Col de Falimont. Another distinctive feature is that it takes the ‘rock trail’ on the ascent, but it can, of course, be walked in either direction.

This route offers some of the most beautiful and spectacular views of the Munster Valley, all in the heart of the Frankenthal-Missheimle Nature Reserve. Several difficult passages along the cliffside. Not suitable for those who are afraid of heights.

A beautiful hike through the Hirschsteine rocks, an area less well known than the famous sentier des Roches, but just as impressive! You'll be amazed by the imposing metal staircase leading up to the rocks, the passageway carved into the rock and the vertiginous but safe path on the mountainside. Return via the ridges from Tanet. Beautiful views over the Munster valley and Lac Vert. This hike is not permitted in winter! (see practical information)

A magnificent hike with breathtaking scenery. The first section is very technical along the rocky path, followed by the ascent to the Hohneck. Very varied scenery and sublime views throughout the route. There are opportunities to stop for a break at the inns along the way. Warning! This route includes several sections that are off-limits or should be avoided in winter conditions The hike should be undertaken from May to October, depending on snow conditions (see practical information below).

A two-day walk around Hohneck for the whole family. We did it in two six-hour stages, at the pace of our children (aged 7 and 10) and including breaks. Hiking is prohibited until further notice by municipal decree due to rockfalls on theGR®®531trail. Please note! This route is not accessible in winter. Points (2), (3) and (4) connecting the Col du Falimont to Frankenthal are closed from 1 November to 30 April 2022 (prefectural decree of 18 May 2022).

By completing a circular route starting from Lac de Retournemer (a natural lake formed by glacial over-excavation), you will pass successively by Col de Malakoff, near Roche du Diable, and small pass, crossing the high stubble field. From small pass, you will return to the starting point.

The path is steep and very rugged at the start, running along the edge of the cliff, then continues along a dirt track. There is a beautiful viewpoint at the top of Haut Gazon.

This walk takes you around Retournemer Lake and to its outlet, a waterfall about ten metres high, then makes a short detour to the statue of Our Lady of the Snows, which stands in front of the lake, looking towards the peaks. This wild lake is located at the foot of the Hohneck massif and is the first in the Vologne valley.

This hike is one of the most interesting in the Munster Valley. You will discover the Stolz Abalss waterfalls and, at the foot of the Hohneck, the Frankenthal glacial cirque with its rock faces, a favourite haunt of chamois, which can usually be seen early in the morning or in the evening

This is one of the classic walks in the Munster Valley. Walkers will discover the magnificent and refreshing Stolz Ablass waterfalls and the historic Mule Trail (14-18), all in the shade of the fir trees.

Near the magnificent Hohneck glacial cirque, this hike (not recommended in winter conditions) alternates between little-known wild trails and busy tourist paths, sections through forest and bare ridges, alpine landscapes and damp woodlands. Of particular interest are the Petite Fecht waterfalls, the Franquenthal glacial cirque and the exceptional views from the summit of the Petit Hohneck. This is a beautiful hike that climbs along the Petite Fecht, offering views of the Stolz Ablass waterfalls, then the Frankenthal and its peat bog. The return journey is via the Gaschney, taking the Bloye trail.

Five lakes, two waterfalls, a peat bog and beautiful views to feast your eyes on.

The first stage of a two-day bivouac hike with an overnight stay at Lac de Blanchemer, passing by Lac du Lispach, which is reminiscent of a Canadian landscape, and the Machais peat bog. Difficulty and beautiful views sum up this first stage.

A challenging hike due to its elevation gain and occasionally alpine terrain. An exposed section near the Hirschsteine. Do not attempt this in wet weather. The route offers magnificent views, with peat bogs and lakes, and perhaps even chamois, if the hiker remains quiet (around the Hirschsteine and amongst the rocks on the ridges). Following the suggested route, all the ascents are in the shade. On the ridge sections or descents, you’ll discover some of the ‘must-see’ highlights of the Hautes-Vosges!
