Retournemer waterfall and lake

To get to the starting point from Xonrupt-Longemer, head towards Lac de Longemer and walk along the lake on your left. Continue on the^D67A then the D67 and you will soon arrive at Lac de Retournemer on your right, Chemin de Retournemer. Park in the car park at the foot of a cross and information boards.

(S/E) Ignore the access to the houses and take the path that curves sharply to the right. Cross the small Vologne stream and you will come to a fork.

(1) Continue to the right and follow the Route Forestière du Lac de Retournemer. Approach the lake and arrive at a footbridge on your right.

(2) Continue along the track for a good ten metres and take the path on the right. Descend to the banks of the Vologne to admire the waterfall.

(3) Then return to the footbridge.

(2) Cross the footbridge and take the small path along the water's edge, immediately on your right. Go around the hill and you will soon arrive at the Statue of Our Lady of the Snows (if the water level is too high, you can take a path above, turning left and then right).

(4) Continue along the small path and rejoin the road.

(5) Note the tunnel of the old Retounemer tramway on your left, then turn right onto the path along the side of the road and rejoin the Chemin de Retournemer with the car park (S/E).

The hike is located on private property; only walking around the lake is permitted. Please respect the area.
