From Gérardmer (88), climb up to the Col de la Schlucht, then turn left onto the D61 towards the Col du Calvaire and the Col du Bonhomme. After 5 km, you will reach the car park at the Col de Dreieck or Collet du Lac Vert (1,225 m) on the edge of the D61.
(S/E) Follow the red rectangle (GR®5 ) south-west for 300 m.
(1) Descend to the left on the path marked with a yellow signpost towards Lybruck Seestattle. The path descends steeply at first, then widens and arrives at a paved road. Follow it to the left until you reach Lac Vert.
(2) Take the wide path marked with a yellow circle. After 100 m, at the crossroads, turn right and at the next hairpin bend, go straight ahead on the open path that climbs towards the Gaertlesrain inn.
(3) Continue (Rond Jaune) northwards and pass the Erichson Refuge.
(4) Continue to Tiefenbrunnen. Take the path that descends slightly towards the Lac des Truites dam.
(5) Cross the dam and take a stony path marked with a red circle. About a hundred metres further on, on the right, you can see the Grand Ballon (round ball at the top) and the Hohneck (restaurant).
(6) Enter the forest and follow a wide path marked with red circles that descends slightly. 700 metres further on, don't miss the small stony path.
(7) It branches off to the right, marked with a blue circle, and descends to Lac Noir.
(8) Behind the Auberge du Lac Noir, take the path marked with a blue circle that climbs towards the Belmont Observatory (50 mins). The path is wide and the climb is sometimes steep. After 1.8 km, a small path branches off to the right and leads to the observatory 300 m further on.
(9) Continue left on the path marked with a yellow cross, which leads 300 m further on to a pile of rocks overlooking Lac Blanc and its white virgin.
(10) Follow the path west (red ring) to the source of Lac Blanc (picnic table).
(11) At the next crossroads, leave the path that runs along the ridge of Lac Blanc on your right and continue straight ahead to Gazon du Faing.
(12) Turn left onto theGR®5marked with a red rectangle and follow it for 1.5 km until you reach Soultzeren Eck.
(13) Continue right on theGR®5, following the ridge line until you see Lac des Truites.
(14) Turn left onto the panoramic trail marked with a red rectangle crossed out in white, which will take you back to the starting point (S/E).
