Park at the Col de la Schlucht car park.
(S/E) From the car park, cross the pass and head towards the toilets. Go round them on the left to reach the Sentier des Roches.

Take this path to the right until you reach a junction.
(1) Continue straight ahead on this path. It is a technical, very stony and vertiginous route, and is therefore reserved for experienced mountain walkers. The views, however, are sublime. Pass a picnic table and its viewing point, as well as a tunnel. After the tunnel, descend steeply along a series of hairpin bends, still on a path that requires careful attention. After a final viewpoint, you’ll arrive near a small waterfall. This marks the imminent end of the path. After the waterfall, you’ll reach a fork in the road.
(2) Continue along the path on the left towards the Gaschney. At the next junction, keep to the right and reach a track.
(3) Follow this track uphill towards Frankenthal. Then ignore a path that descends to the left. At the end of the track, enjoy a view of the ancient glacial cirque, and arrive at a cross.
(4) Ignore the path on the right. At the next junction, head straight ahead and pass by the small inn. Then head back into the forest, tackling a steep slope up to the Sentier de la Bloy.
(5) Turn left onto this path towards the Gaschney. This path is also technical, narrow and vertiginous. It is therefore only suitable for experienced walkers. Sections of the path run along the mountainside until you reach the second metal staircase.
(6) Continue along the path, which widens into a level track, until you reach a Fork in the road.
(7) Keep climbing, heading straight ahead. Pass close to a ski lift and, at the Fork in the road just before Gaschney, keep to the right to reach the ski resort.

(8) Keep to the right twice to go up a small road. Take the left-hand bend and quickly keep to the right on this road, which climbs very steeply in places. Continue to the end of the road, just before the Ferme-auberge du Schiessroth.

(9) Leave the farmhouse inn on your left and continue to the right along a path that crosses meadows. Ignore a junction and follow a path that is almost level and leads to the Hohneck. Pass close to a fountain.
(10) Continue along the path, which is now very stony, to the Col du Schaeferthal.
(11) Continue the climb to the left, towards the Hohneck. Then keep left again at the next junction. Ignore a path branching off to the right. The path climbs, more or less steeply, to the summit. Towards the end, the markings on the IGN maps are out of date.
(12) Once at the summit, go round the inn on the right to reach the car park. Take the path that starts to the right of the car park. Then turn left and ignore the paths on the right. At the junction, keep straight ahead to reach the Col de Falimont.
(13) Keep to the right to follow the GR®5. Here too, the markings on IGN maps are out of date. Shortly afterwards, ignore a path on the right that descends towards Frankenthal.

Keep to the right, then to the left before turning right into a woodland. Continue straight on until you reach the road.
(15) Turn right and, at the bend, keep left before taking a track, also on the left. You’ll come to a crossroads.
(16) Stay on the path on the right. Once in the forest, at the junction, keep straight ahead, then turn right at the next junction.
