Description of the walk

Park in one of the car parks at the Col de la Schlucht.

(S/E) Head east on the D417 and quickly turn right onto the Sentier des Roches. You will arrive at a place called Krappenfels.

(1) From this point, you leave the Sentier des Roches. The path becomes easier to walk on and you can catch your breath on the descent.
At the next crossroads, you have two options:
- climb towards Les 3 Fours on the right,
- or continue downhill to Frankenthal on the left.
Choose the second option and start the descent via the path that leads to the forest track.

(2) Take it on the right and start climbing towards Frankenthal.

(3) On your left, admire the Col de Falimont. Turn right, pass the small wooden turnstile and enter the peat bog area (caution). After a few hairpin bends, you will come out at the Col de Falimont.

(4) At this large crossroads, take the second path on the left to reach the summit of Hohneck.

(5) From the summit, take the small path that descends towards Wormspel. Be careful, the descent is technical, with many unstable rocks and slippery areas, even in dry weather. Reach it.

(6) Continue downhill on the path to the left, ending at Lac de Schiessrothried.

(7) Cross the dyke, turn left for a return trip to the lake shore, then continue opposite the climb to the Schiessroth inn.

(8) Turn left towards Schaeferthal and Hohneck, which are not actually on the route. Instead, head for the Schaeferthal Pass.

(9) Continue towards Hohneck, keeping to the right-hand path along the ridge.

(10) Take care at this point, as the path is narrow and there is a steep drop. Continue in the same direction to reach the Col de Falimont at the top.

(4) Walk about 30 metres to the right, then take the path furthest to the left to skirt the Martinswand rocks on the left. Pass through the small undergrowth to reach a road.

(11) Climb slightly up the ridge overlooking the Sentier des Roches trail you took at the start. Continue on to easily reach the car park where you started (S/E).

A very beautiful hike consisting of two lovely, slightly technical descents (the rocky trail from the Col de la Schlucht and from Hohneck to Lake Schiessrothried) and two ascents, including the very steep climb to the Col de Falimont.
Sumptuous autumn landscapes.

Superb hike, including of course the rock trail. A hike with lots of elevation gain, which is good for morale.

Very busy, yes and no. The hiking trail passes through many other hiking trails at the same time. So, at the beginning, you will come across people doing the 2-3 hour loops, but otherwise there are very few people on this trail when it is not part of the other loops.
I did this hike on a beautiful day.
It's a hike with some good climbs! Always bring water with you.

Enjoy your hike. The atmosphere at Frankenthal is always so refreshing, before the famous climb up Fallimont. There's quite a bit of elevation gain, but it's still very pleasant.
A classic route to do again and again.

Superb hike! The landscapes are varied and magnificent. The views at the end of the trail from the Falimont Pass are splendid! However, some of the ascents and descents are quite challenging. The trail is perfectly marked. I had a wonderful day on this hike!

A very beautiful hike, unfortunately a little too crowded on this sunny Sunday. Very clear signage.
The route is a bit challenging for occasional walkers.
Perhaps best done during the week for a more peaceful experience.

I did this hike on a hot Sunday, but it wasn't too warm because there is plenty of undergrowth, streams, and always wind in the Falimont Pass and on the Hohneck. A refreshing swim in Lake Schiessroth was welcome.
I followed the route to the lake and, as I was feeling fit, I didn't go straight back up to the Schiessroth inn from the lake. I retraced my steps a little and took a detour south along the Spitzkof ridge (marked by a blue square trail) to the summit of Kastelberg. Return to Hohneck via the ridges, then back to the route.

There are often chamois in the Wormsfel cirque, which was the case on Sunday!

I planned this hike on my own and did it yesterday (during a heatwave) before coming across this guide, so it was slightly different but just as beautiful. The guide seems very reliable. I can confirm that the peat bogs near Falimont are tricky, but they weren't part of the loop and just caught my attention for a few minutes (chamois).
My route was as follows: the rocky trail from the Schlucht, then Frankental, leaving the Falimont pass on the right and continuing towards Gachney (blue rectangle), climbing up to the Schiessroth inn (red, white, red) then descending to the lake via the numerous switchbacks in the opposite direction to the guidebook, follow the dam and then climb up the Wormspel to the pass (blue triangle, in the opposite direction to the map), follow the ridges towards the Schlucht (with or without the Hohneck summit).
Equivalent KM, elevation gain approx. 750m, approx. 7 hours

First day of hiking with bright sunshine and 25°C. When I arrived at Hohneck, point 5, I decided to cut the trip short and head for the Col de la Schlucht. You feel strong because you walk a lot in Belgium, so you set off confidently but quickly lose heart when you see the gradients. I therefore completed the second part the following Friday before returning home.
Nevertheless, it was a very beautiful hike, and I had no problems following the map and guidebook. There were lots of chamois on the descent to Wormsa, which was wonderful.

The explanations are accurate. One possible improvement would be to add the symbols to follow at the various junctions.
The route was very busy on Pentecost Sunday. It would be better to do it at a quieter time of year as there was a long queue on the rocky path.
The forest between Honeck and Schlucht is simply magnificent.
The various views are just as stunning.
Thank you for the route!

Very beautiful hike, with reliable description, map and directions.
Beautiful panoramic views, varied terrain including forests, lakes and meadows. Some snowfields (in mid-April) and river crossings. High-top hiking boots/waterproof footwear and walking sticks recommended. Approximately 6 hours of walking.
