Park in one of the car parks at the Col de la Schlucht.
(S/E) Head east on the D417 and quickly turn right onto the Sentier des Roches. You will arrive at a place called Krappenfels.
(1) From this point, you leave the Sentier des Roches. The path becomes easier to walk on and you can catch your breath on the descent.
At the next crossroads, you have two options:
- climb towards Les 3 Fours on the right,
- or continue downhill to Frankenthal on the left.
Choose the second option and start the descent via the path that leads to the forest track.
(2) Take it on the right and start climbing towards Frankenthal.
(3) On your left, admire the Col de Falimont. Turn right, pass the small wooden turnstile and enter the peat bog area (caution). After a few hairpin bends, you will come out at the Col de Falimont.
(4) At this large crossroads, take the second path on the left to reach the summit of Hohneck.
(5) From the summit, take the small path that descends towards Wormspel. Be careful, the descent is technical, with many unstable rocks and slippery areas, even in dry weather. Reach it.
(6) Continue downhill on the path to the left, ending at Lac de Schiessrothried.
(7) Cross the dyke, turn left for a return trip to the lake shore, then continue opposite the climb to the Schiessroth inn.
(8) Turn left towards Schaeferthal and Hohneck, which are not actually on the route. Instead, head for the Schaeferthal Pass.
(9) Continue towards Hohneck, keeping to the right-hand path along the ridge.
(10) Take care at this point, as the path is narrow and there is a steep drop. Continue in the same direction to reach the Col de Falimont at the top.
(4) Walk about 30 metres to the right, then take the path furthest to the left to skirt the Martinswand rocks on the left. Pass through the small undergrowth to reach a road.
(11) Climb slightly up the ridge overlooking the Sentier des Roches trail you took at the start. Continue on to easily reach the car park where you started (S/E).
