From Tanet to Lac Vert from altitude 1000

This hike allows you to discover varied landscapes, access the ridge and enjoy superb views of the entire Vosges mountains and the Alsace plain. It crosses two nature reserves: the Franckenthal-Missheimle Reserve and the Tanet Gazon du Faing Reserve.
The hike also passes by the Rocher de Hirchsteine, the summit of Tanet and Lac Vert. The entire climb is through forest.

Description of the walk

The departure point is in the large car park, not far from the Tanet farm.

(S/E) Head towards the Tanet farmhouse inn.

(1) At the side of the road, take the path on the right towards La Schlucht, then keep going in the same direction at the following intersections until you reach a fork in the road at the top of the ski lift.

(2) Take the path on the left towards Missheiml until you reach the Missheiml peat bog.

(3) Enjoy the view, then continue along the path to reach an intersection.

(4) Turn completely left towards Hirschsteine (path marked with a blue rectangle) until you see a path on the right.

(5) Turn right towards the ridge to reach the Hirschsteine viewpoint. You will soon come to a fork.

(6) Ignore a path on the right and continue straight ahead until you reach a Y-junction.

(7) Leave the main path and climb up to the left to reach the Hirschsteine viewpoint.

(8) At the viewpoint, retrace your steps.

(7) Turn right in the opposite direction of the climb until you reach the fork you passed on the way up.

(6) Climb steeply to the left along the path through the scree and join the ridge.

(9) Turn right towards Tanet, following the ridge first through the forest and then across meadows to reach the summit of Tanet.

(11) Descend to the right along the path towards Lac Vert and join a multi-way junction at a road.

(12) Turn left and follow the marked path or road to reach the edge of Lac Vert.

(13) Go down the track that passes in front of the Lac Vert car park and takes you back to the car park via a final climb of (S/E).
