Buissoncourt walks

Please note: there is no path beyond the salt pans; you’ll need to cross a field for about a hundred metres to reach the other path.

A circular starting from Velaine-sous-Amance, towards the village of Réméréville. Pass through the Bois de Champenoux, steeped in history from the First World War, then head towards Réméréville along country lanes. Return via small roads, passing in front of Romémont Castle and the Chapelle de Froide Terre chapel.

A circular starting from the village of Velaine-sous-Amance, taking a small road to the village of Cerville, passing the old castle and church, then heading towards Laneuvelotte along field paths and small roads, crossing the underground gas storage facility and enjoying views of the Château de Voirincourt. Arrival in Laneuvelotte, then return to Velaine-sous-Amance via the quiet D86 road, passing in front of Tremblois Castle.

A circular walk starting from the church in Réméréville, passing through the Bezange-la-Grande State Forest, then through the Bois Raon and the Bois du Coin Saint-Martin. A stop at the Hoéville orientation point with a 360° view. In the Bois du Coin Saint-Martin, passing a beautiful stone marker and the grave of Captain Henri Brugère, and finally a visit to the Courbesseaux National Necropolis.

Meurthe-et-Moselle in all its splendour: water, meadows, farmland and forest!

Varangéville is the last town in France with an active mine. This mine extracts rock salt. This hike offers views of the mine facilities and the Basilica of Saint-Nicolas-de-Port.

Alternative route if it has rained heavily in the previous days, if the footbridge over the pond is under water and therefore impassable.

A short walk offering a glimpse of the Solvay factory, the port which once received barges for the factory, a pond and the Notre-Dame de Grâce Chapel in Dombasle-sur-Meurthe.

A circular route along roads, field paths and woodland tracks between the villages of Erbéviller-sur-Amezule and Sornéville. Passing through the woods of Faulx and Grignan. A beautiful distant view of the countryside as you leave the Bois de Faulx. Passing an observation post with its small sentry box, a remnant of the First World War, at a place called Les Hauts Royaux in Réméréville.

This long circular walk, which starts at the Saint-Nicolas-de-Port Leisure Park, takes you along a section of the ballast track of a recently disused SNCF railway line and will first lead you to discover the brackish lagoons between the river and the settling basin. Thesecond part moves away from the valley and takes you westwards through woods, pastures, orchards and farmland, before leading you back to your starting point along a ridge path.

A short route of about 2 hours, through fields and woodland, very pleasant, with little elevation gain.

This walk offers a beautiful view of Nancy and the Château de Saulxures-les-Nancy. You’ll pass through the Cerville underground storage facility and have the chance to see the surroundings of Essey-les-Nancy aerodrome.

Part of the ‘Tour du Grand Nancy’ route, a circular route between Pulnoy and Dommartin-sous-Amance. The route passes through the towns of Pulnoy and Seichamps, then climbs up to the Haut de Baxa plateau for some stunning views, before reaching the village of Dommartin-sous-Amance via a stony track, passing by the Monteux farm. Return via a section of cycle path, a stony track and field paths, passing the underground gas storage facilities. The route finishes with a stretch through the Pulnoy woods, running alongside the golf course.

The Battle of the Grand Couronné in September 1914 in the Bois de Champenoux. On the lookout for shell holes and trenches at the edge of the woods.A walk partly along paths and partly off-track through the heart of the forest; best undertaken with a GPS or a good sense of direction.This walk can be complemented by exploring other remains from the Battle of the Grand Couronné.

An urban walk along a cycle path starting from the Bois de Badonfosse. Starting from Saulxures-lès-Nancy, heading to the Chartreuse de Bosserville via the Bois de Badonfosse, continuing towards the Marne-Rhine Canal at Laneuveville, just outside Nancy, crossing the Meurthe via the Bosserville footbridge. The walk continues along the canal towards the port of Nancy, passing through Jarville-la-Malgrange and the outskirts of Nancy. Junction with the Meurthe at Saint-Max, followed by a walk along the Meurthe. Return via Avenue Eugène Pottier and Rue Salvador Allende.

A circular loop between Hoéville and Athienville via the Bois de Ranzey. Return via roads and country lanes. In the Bois Mougenot section, there are numerous remains from the 1914–1918 period in the form of trenches.

A circular walk starting from the church, mainly through woodland. Passing the Hoéville orientation table at a place called La Croisette. Throughout the walk, you’ll pass the remains from the First World War. And finally, a walk along the Roche aux Fées. The walk follows wide woodland tracks and well-maintained footpaths.

This route spans two forests (Raon and Ranzey). The site is steeped in history, with remnants of soldiers' passage during the First World War and a monument paying tribute to the Ranzey maquis (1939-45). Numerous educational panels provide details about the various points of interest. There is also a truly impressive panorama to discover at the gigantic orientation table at La Croisette, which is the starting point for this hike.

Forest walk in the Bois des Maires and Bois des Barres areas of the Amance National Forest, following the traces of trenches, concrete shelters and blockhouses from the Battle of Grand Couronné during the 1914–1918 war. Circular route that could be classified as difficult, as it involves walking deep in the forest, mostly off-trail, in search of military structures. A route of four villages with magnificent views of the countryside (Pain de Sucre, start of the Seille valley) and the Vosges mountains on a clear day. Pass by the Priory of Blanzey, which is private property but accessible on foot.

On the Tour du Grand Nancy route, a circular route between Dommartin-sous-Amance and the Priory of Blanzey in Bouxières-aux-Chênes. Set off along a country lane to reach Laître-sous-Amance with its medieval church. Climb up to Amance via a small, well-maintained path, taking in the village, the listed church, the hilltop of the old fortified castle and the views over the towns north of Nancy, then over the valley of Bouxières-aux-Chênes and Leyr. Follow a track to reach part of the village of Bouxières-aux-Chênes and head to the Priory of Blanzey. Then, via a woodland path, take a short walk through the Bois de Blanzey to visit the tower and the old orchards of Crany. Return to the starting point via a field path and a stony track.

A circular starting from Dommartin-sous-Amance to the hillside village of Eulmont with its castle, returning via Agincourt and the Pain de Sucre tour. A short detour can be made to visit the Blanzey chapel, a historic monument.

A walk in search of the locations of the batteries in the woods of Côte Jadelot and Grand Mont in Amance. These batteries defended the soldiers in the Amance en Contrebas State Forest. Return via the old Amance iron mine. Circular route that can be classified as moderate despite short forays deep into the forest with a few off-trail sections in search of military structures.

A lovely little walk through fields and a small patch of woodland with a view of Nancy in the distance, not to mention the view of the orchards at Coyviller.  No signposting

Part of the Tour du Grand Nancy route, a circular stage between Coyviller and Rosières-aux-Salines. A walk mainly along gravel tracks, except in the Bois de la Blanche Croix. Setting off from the village of Coyviller along a lovely track, the route arrives above Rosières-aux-Salines with a view of the salt pans, then descends into the village to visit these three monuments: the church, the fountain and the fortified tower. Climb back up onto the plateau to reach the Bois de la Blanche Croix, where you’ll find a blockhouse with its shelter and trenches – a remnant of the First World War – offering a stunning view over the Meurthe valley. Return via tracks and a short stretch of road to reach the two ponds at Coyviller.

Many fruit trees to see along the way. Departure from Coyviller, then visit Manoncourt-en-Vermois, the Charles Sonnoni memorial and return to Coyviller.

A circular walk on the northern outskirts of Moncel-sur-Seille to visit the Bois de Rosebois, the Gare Impériale and the Chapelle Saint-Roch de Chambrey, the Bois Saint-Roch, the Moulin de Sainte-Marie and the Bois de Sainte-Marie. As you enter the Bois de Rosebois and exit near the old railway line, you can see remnants of the First World War.

A circular route to visit the German remains from the 1914-1918 war in the Bois Haut de Chaumont in Moncel-sur-Seille. In the woods, it's a walk off the beaten track in search of remains. This hike is best done with a GPS or a good sense of direction. It is possible that there are still remains to be found: if you find any others, please post the photos and send me the GPS coordinates to complete this hike.
