Pulnoy Wood

A short route of about 2 hours, through fields and woodland, very pleasant, with little elevation gain.

Description of the walk

Car park for the Bois de Pulnoy fitness trail. Nearest Vervaux bus stop, lines 15 and 22.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, head south-east along the Chemin du Haut des Vignes and continue to a fork in the road.

(1) Turn right onto the path, pass the wayside shrine and continue to the next junction.

(2) Turn left onto the path that runs alongside the château grounds, go straight under a power line, and arrive at the edge of the Bois de l’Épine.

(3) Turn left and walk along the edge of the woods. Take a short stretch between two fields and continue along the edge of the Bois de Saurupt until you reach a junction.

(4) Continue straight on into the Bois du Grand Saint-Pierre, leaving the path on your left. Cross the entire wood heading north-east, pass under the power line again and join theGR® 534 (marked in red and white).

(5) Turn left onto theGR® in the Lenoncourt National Forest and continue to a junction.

(6) Turn right, leaving theGR®, and rejoin it further on at a new junction.

(7) Follow it to the right until you reach a gentle bend in the path, approximately 200 m away.

(8) Leave this wide path to re-enter the woods and head straight on to return to the starting point (S/E).

We enjoyed this route, which, apart from the first section, runs through woodland and is very quiet (lots of birdsong). Indeed, despite a very dry April, the little rain we had last week had filled the ruts.
It was difficult to find a place to have a picnic; it’s only at the end of the route that there are some nice tree stumps to sit on.

It’s a lovely route in autumn as it’s mainly through the forest with beautiful colours, but there are indeed large muddy ruts along the way and you have to go round them. Apart from that, there are lovely views over the surrounding villages and the route is flat. At the end of the route, to avoid the wide forest track, you cross the Pulnoy Arboretum and the fitness trail, where you find civilisation again! Well worth doing again and highly recommended – just make sure you wear good shoes.

Please note that even in July, a third of the route through the forest was practically impassable due to the mud and the rutted path
We had to go off-track
What a shame

A pleasant winter afternoon stroll. Because of the heavy rain over the last few days, there were plenty of puddles to avoid...

A lovely little walk, but particularly muddy in the lower part of the wood (especially the section along the stream). It’s best to wait for drier weather before setting out on this route.
