Circular between the villages of Velaine-sous-Amance and Réméréville

The walk starts at the church in Velaine-sous-Amance, Rue du Chaud Four, with parking opposite the church.

(S/E) Opposite the church, turn left onto Rue du Chaud Four and leave the village.

(1) At the crossroads, take the track on the left and, at the junction at the end of the track, continue straight ahead to enter the woods.

(2) Cross the remains of an old railway line from World War I, continue straight ahead on the woodland track and you will come to a crossroads.

(3) Before the barrier, visit the Fontaine des Poilus fountain and the grave of an officer from the First World War.

(4) Return to the crossroads.

(3) Take the hairpin bend to the left, continue straight ahead on the gravel track, Tranchée de Saint-Paul, and take the first wooden track on the left towards Buissoncourt. Stay on this track, make a 90° turn and head for the village of Réméréville.

(5) Enter the village, join a street, and at the Y-junction continue left twice to continue straight ahead along Rue de l'Église. Reach the church, the war memorial and the fountain.

(6) Turn right onto Rue du Général Mathis, pass the town hall and arrive at the D84.

(7) Continue along the same street until you reach a fork.

(8) Continue straight ahead on Rue Charles Berliet and leave the village via the D80.

(9) At the next T-junction, with a wayside cross, continue straight on the D80. Pass a water treatment plant and a stream and arrive at a fork.

(10) Turn right onto the D126, which runs alongside the Bois de Rascenel and then the Bois de la Fourasse. Cross another stream and you will come to a junction.

(11) Leave the D126, take the road on the right, pass a statue of the Virgin Mary and follow the Bois des Chênés. Cross another stream.

(12) Pass in front of Romémont Castle and join the D83.

(13) Turn left and, at the dip in the road, turn left into the woods and stop briefly to visit the Chapelle de Froide Terre chapel.

(14) Retrace your steps.

(13) Turn left and follow the small road that leads to the wayside cross encountered shortly after the start.

(1) Continue straight ahead and arrive at the car park opposite the church (S/E).

This option avoids a bit of road but adds about 1 km to the route.

From point (8), turn left onto Rue du Docteur Grandjean and, at the village exit, take the gravel track on the right. Continue along this track at the edge of the salt pits, keeping to the right. Rejoin the route just before point (10) by turning left onto the small road.

Visit the two villages of Velaine-sous-Amance and Réméréville with their churches and fountains.

Visit the Roménont castle and the Froide Terre chapel.

Remains of an old railway line built by the Poilus to supply troops in the Champenoux forest, it was also used to transport a naval cannon that bombarded the Germans at Hampont. It started in Dombasle-sur-Meurthe and may have been connected to the Bouzule railway line
