Circular route from La Petite Saline to Sommerviller – Crévic

Park on Rue des Salines near the lock on the Marne-Rhine Canal. See Practical Information.

(S/E) Cross Sommerviller Lock No. 21 and turn left to follow the canal to the next lock, Crévic Lock No. 20.

(1) Turn right onto Chemin d'Aulne before the mill, heading towards Crévic. Once on the D2, turn left, cross the footbridge over the Sanon, then follow the D2 to the left: the street names aren’t visible, but it’s normally Rue Clémenceau. Continue to the bridge crossing the canal and cross it.

(2) Turn left onto the D81 and pass the cemetery. Continue straight on, leaving Rue Bénatange on your left, then take the path on the right which follows the^GR® 534 (red and white markings).

(3) Turn left and begin a steep climb to reach the plateau.

(4) Turn sharply left and follow the^GR® to the Notre-Dame de Pitié Chapel, after joining the D81.

(5) Leave the D81 and take the path on the right, crossing the fairly busy road with care. You are now on the yellow^PR® route.

(6) Turn right at a 90° angle and follow the^PR® route to the sewage treatment plant.

(7) Turn left and continue for about 250 m. Turn right at the first path, staying on the^PR®. You will reach a T-junction with a white path.

(8) Turn right.

(9) At the edge of the woods, take a sharp left-hand bend and then continue straight on towards the hamlet of Notre-Dame de Grâce, leaving the track on your right.

(10) After the first houses, turn left onto the clearly visible path: signpost with markings. Begin a short climb.

(11) Follow the^PR® which turns left and rejoin the white path near a fork you passed on the way out. Turn right to the edge of the woods then follow the path to the left. Enter La Petite Saline and come out onto Rue des Vignes. Turn right twice to return to the car park near the lock (S/E).

Once you’ve familiarised yourself with the route, it’s best to start from Crévic, as there’s a more convenient car park than the one at Sommerviller Lock No. 21.
The walk is estimated to take 4 hours 10 minutes, but keen walkers can complete it in less time.
It can be shortened to point (8) by turning left to go directly to La Petite Saline (S/E).

(8) A pretty little, well-maintained chapel, Notre-Dame de Pitié.
