Circular route between the villages of Erbéviler-sur-Amezule and Sornéville

A circular route along roads, field paths and woodland tracks between the villages of Erbéviller-sur-Amezule and Sornéville. Passing through the woods of Faulx and Grignan. A beautiful distant view of the countryside as you leave the Bois de Faulx. Passing an observation post with its small sentry box, a remnant of the First World War, at a place called Les Hauts Royaux in Réméréville.

Description of the walk

The walk starts at the church in Erbéviller-sur-Amezule, Rue du Grand Couronné, where parking is available.

(S/E) As the church is located at the entrance to the village, with your back to it, turn right onto Rue du Grand Couronné to cross the village, and at the roundabout continue straight on the D80 towards Sornéville.

(1) At the Y-junction with a wayside cross, continue right onto the D80 to reach and pass through the village of Sornéville, passing successively by the cemetery, the town hall, the church and the fountain.

(2) After the fountain, at the first junction continue straight ahead, and after 20 m turn right onto Rue de la Fagatte. At the bend in the road, continue straight ahead along a grassy field path and follow the hedge.

(3) At the end of the path, turn right onto another grassy track. Join a small road and follow it to the right until you reach the first stony track on the left.

(4) Take this track and cross the Bois de Faulx. At the end of the track, at the small clearing, continue straight on along the narrow woodland path.

(5) On leaving the woods, turn right onto the field path, rejoining the small road at the farm building with the observatory opposite.

(6) Cross the D70 with care and continue along the stony track opposite until you reach a fork.

(7) Turn right to enter the Bois Saint-Paul, then turn left at a 90° angle and pass under the high-voltage power line.

(8) After this section, take a wide forest path on the right.

(9) At the end of the wide path, turn onto a small woodland path on the left, and after about 100 m turn right onto a wide, unpaved woodland path.

(10) At the junction at elevation 248, continue straight on along the wide grassy path until you reach a stony track.

(11) Turn right and stay on this track until you reach the D70.

(12) Turn right and stay on the road leading to the church at Erbéviller-sur-Amezule (S/E).
