Belvès-de-Castillon walks

A fairly hilly route around the famous Château Castagens, with numerous viewpoints, undergrowth, vineyards and small hamlets.

You are in Castillon-la-Bataille, where the Hundred Years' War between the French and the English ended in 1453. In this historic region, this walk will take you to the hills overlooking the town and the Dordogne River.

It is a 14th-century fortified house that was the family home of the Renaissance philosopher and thinker Michel de Montaigne. The vineyard is part of the Bergerac appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC).

A bucolic, hilly hike with beautiful views. It starts with a steep climb, but once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful view of the Dordogne valley and Castillon-la-Bataille. The route takes you through vineyards, woods and meadows, with little tarmac. It ends with another steep climb, but less steep than the one at the start.
