Description of the walk

Park in the square in front of Lussac Town Hall.

(S/E) Walk down from the church, past the cemetery, and turn left, then right to walk along the D17. At the next crossroads, turn left onto Chemin Lessert. Continue between the vineyards until you reach a T-junction.

(1) Turn left, staying on the edge of the road, while observing the vineyards. Cross the D122E4 with caution, then immediately find the path on the right at the edge of a wood.

(2) Take this path to the right to discover the Domaine du Château de Courlat. Go around a pond on the right, then follow a small stream to reach Château Saint-Ferdinand in Govinière (the path can be hazardous depending on the season).

(3) Turn left to join the D122, then turn right to reach the climb to Château Latour Ségur. Turn left in front of the estate and continue through the vineyards to reach the edge of the Bois Rouzeau.

(4) Turn right to follow the edge of the woods on the left side of the road, then turn left to pass near the Tour de Grenet. Reach the T-junction with the D17. Turn left and continue for about 100 metres until you reach the junction with the road leading to La Clotte.

(5) Turn right and continue through the vineyards to Château la Grande Clotte. In front of the estate, turn left onto the D22 road.

(6) Turn left onto this road and drive carefully until you reach an intersection after passing a small hamlet and a slight incline. After the hamlet of Girodon, turn right until you reach the troglodyte house.

(7) Turn left and stay on this road until you reach Château Bellevue. Before the property, turn 90° to the right onto the path between the vineyards to reach the D122. Turn left at the Y-junction to find a path to the first houses of Le Rival.

(8) Turn left onto this path which descends towards the vineyards. Cross the small Trou du Renard stream. Then climb back up between the vineyards. At the top, turn left to reach the natural rock formation of Pierre de Picampeau.

(9) Opposite, take the wide track to Château Haut Piquat, at the entrance to Lussac.

(10) Descend to the right to the cemetery, then turn left onto Rue du 19 Mars 1962 to return to the car park at Place de la Mairie in Lussac (S/E).

Worth a visit

Important information: on each of the posts corresponding to the numbering, remember to scan the QR codes, which will give you information about the places you are passing through or nearby sites.
Between (S/E) and (1), look out for Château de Lussac on the left.
(3) Château Saint-Ferdinand is a vineyard taken over in 2020 by Noémie Tanneau, a thirty-something neo-winemaker with no agricultural background. The 6-hectare vineyard is committed to organic farming. The stream, forest and meadow you will pass through are a refuge for the League for the Protection of Birds. The Ruisseau du Gendarme stream once powered a grain mill. You can see the remains once you reach the bank on the left. Wine tasting available by appointment.
(7) Cave dwelling: this is the origin of Lussac.
(9) The Picampeau stone.

Hello, there is a significant issue at point 2. It is impossible to take the path because there is a barrier indicating private property and no trespassing. As a result, we were unable to explore the grounds of Château de Courlat, walk around the pond, follow the stream, or reach Château Saint Ferdinand. We had to make a long detour by road via a place called PICHON before finally reaching point 3, which was no easy feat. The app on our phone was a great help! The rest of the route is reliable. At point 10, be careful not to miss the path between a beautiful house and the vineyards to reach the cemetery.
