You can park on Place Cazenave or near the Allée Perna playground (public toilets).
(S/E) Start the walk opposite the town hall in the village of Montpeyroux, take the Route des Durand on your right and walk past the Château des Durand (white façade).
(1) Ignore the first road on your left (the return route) and, 40 metres further on, turn left onto the departmental road. 30 metres further on, take the path marked in yellow on your right between two houses, one of which has blue shutters. Follow this path for 1.5 km, taking a 100-metre tarmac section halfway along, then continuing straight on, always following the yellow markings. You’ll reach a road at a place called Le Bonnadier
(2) Turn right onto the road and follow it for about 400 m.
(3) At the Fork in the road, turn left to pass through the hamlet of Les Coulauds, rejoin the yellow-marked path and, after 300 m, cross the Chemin de Grave and continue straight ahead, with a view of the bastide of Villefranche de Lonchat.
(4) At the crossroads of the paths, turn right, walk alongside the natural wastewater treatment plant at Lac de Gurson, cross a road and continue between the two tennis courts.
(5) Start the lakeside circular loop on the right, walking anti-clockwise along the lakeside path. You’ll have the beach in front of you, on the other side of the lake, and a magnificent view of the ruins of Gurson Castle. Walk up the embankment to continue your walk along the second small lake, which is reserved for fishing. Once you’ve walked round the small lake, cross the embankment again to return to the beach (swimming and picnics).
(6) Continue the full circuit and head towards the tennis courts.
(5) Cross the road again and walk past the sewage treatment plant, heading in the opposite direction to your outward journey.
(4) At the crossroads, carry on straight ahead through a small wood for 100 m, then continue straight on and cross a large meadow.
(7) Cross the RD10, walk alongside the woodland and meadow on your right and, at the end of the meadow, turn left into the undergrowth onto a faintly marked path leading downhill for 50 m, then head back up a clearly visible track.
(8) You have now reached the yellow markings of the Chemin d’Espagne. Turn left. This path, once travelled by Henry IV, winds through very pleasant woodland for 1 km.
(9) Return to the RD10 and turn right to head back to the village of Montpeyroux, walking alongside the road on the vineyard side. You can see the Lipizzaner horse stud on your right.
(1) Follow Route des Durand to the right to return to the car park (S/E).
