Description of the route

Start from the car park behind the church in Pessac-sur-Dordogne.

(S/E) Turn right onto the D130 towards Ribebon and Eynesse (north-east, then east).

(1) At the T-junction, turn right towards Gréal, then continue for about 1.5 km and turn left at the T-junction towards the Dordogne

(2) At the small bridge over the Soulége stream, go straight on for 500m.

(3) At the T-junction, turn left towards the river, then, after 2 km, do not take the dead-end road opposite but turn right towards the D130.

(4) Turn left at the stop sign onto the D130.

(5) Drive through the village of Eynesse and, at the roundabout, turn left towards Sainte-Foy-la-Grande.

(6) At the bend, turn left and follow the road (do not go straight on). Follow the river (several possible stopping points).

(7) At the stop sign, turn left then go straight on until the traffic lights.

(8) At the traffic lights, turn right then left towards the bridge (do not turn right towards the town centre).

(9) Go round the roundabout and take the road just before the one leading to Stade Mezières (sign for “Intermarché”) to reach the river. Then, take Rue du Canet.

(10) After passing under the railway line, take the third road on the left towards Rieux Vert, and follow the river for about 2 km.

(11) Turn right at the “dead end” sign, then left after 300m. Continue for about 3km to the next point (you will follow the D936 for 200m without joining it).

(12) Go straight on to the canoe club, complete the circular route to return to the junction towards Gironnet and turn left towards Saint-Aulaye.

(13) In Saint-Aulaye, head left towards the river and, on leaving the village, take the road on the right at the T-junction (the left-hand road is a dead end) towards Le Rivet and Les Granges.

(14) At the T-junction, turn left (towards La Barthe) towards Les Granges.

(15) At the crossroads, turn left to reach Pessac and the church via the bridge (about 2.5 km).

(16) Turn left after the bridge to reach the church (or right to reach the canoe club and the bar-restaurant on the quayside) (S/E).

Warning! Busy roads between (7) and (10), and from (14).

Worth a visit

In Pessac-sur-Dordogne, do not confuse the Church of Saint-Vincent with the Protestant church...

Nice route, with a few stretches on roads with a speed limit of 70 km/h
We didn't feel unsafe at any point.
There aren't necessarily cycle paths along the Dordogne route.
I recommend this peaceful ride

A lovely, easy scenic route along the banks of the Dordogne.
Completed without any problems starting from Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (instead of Pessac) with the GPX file loaded onto the bike’s GPS
The straight stretch before Sainte-Foy-la-Grande has a bit more traffic, but it’s still very manageable.
On the day of the ride (Sept. 2020), the D130 was still ‘properly’ blocked off with a sign stating that access is strictly prohibited to cyclists and pedestrians. So we decided to turn back and take the alternative route... which has a bit of a climb! (Remember to carry a copy of the map in your pocket, as the GPS loses its way once you leave the route... or perhaps it isn’t sophisticated enough: Bryton 530)

Thanks to the creator of the route. We weren’t familiar with the area, but we didn’t get lost (the map and instructions make it impossible to go wrong).
The straight stretch before Sainte-Foy-la-Grande is a bit of a slog, with lots of cars and lorries.

A lovely route, clearly described. The section of the RD130 closed to traffic is easy to get through, especially as it offers a magnificent view of the Dordogne and Ribebon Castle. Thank you
