From Puisseguin to Joanin

A gently undulating walk through vineyards and hamlets. The roads used are mostly quiet, and the wide verges mean you can avoid walking on the tarmac.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From Place de l’Église, take the D17 northwards for a few metres, then turn right at the first junction. Walk past the schools, continue along the path and, before a small copse, turn left to join Rue du Barrail.

(1) Turn right, pass Bel-Air and continue to La Faurie.

(2) Turn right towards Langlais, cross the road and continue straight on until you reach the D123E7.

(3) Follow this road to the left, then turn left again at the first junction and continue for about 100 metres.

(4) Just before the small pond, turn right, then cross the copse and walk alongside the vineyards. Turn right towards Fayant, go round the hamlet and rejoin the road.

(5) Turn left, stay on the road, pass the houses and continue to the junction before reaching the woods.

(6) Take the road on the right towards Petit Joanin, continue and pass through Joanin, staying on the same road.

(7) At the junction with the D123E7, turn right towards Saint-Clair, cross the hamlet and continue to the junction you passed on the way out. Turn left.

(3) Continue straight on along the road, pass Curat and carry on to the church car park (S/E).

Notes

Important: this route takes you off the beaten track. All the landmarks mentioned in the description (local place names, castle names, as well as high-voltage power lines, bridges, etc.) are shown on the corresponding IGN 1:25,000 map but are not always included on the scaled-down map.
It is strongly recommended that you either obtain the aforementioned map or use the app on a smartphone, which will also allow you to be geolocated at all times, enabling you to track your movements accurately.
The route may cross or follow other marked trails. It is tempting to follow the markings! Unless otherwise specified, do not stray from the route.
Using walking poles can prove very useful and reassuring; as well as providing stability, they help distribute the strain.

An easy route to follow; pleasantly undulating; much appreciated by the walkers who were with me.
The grassy verges at the end of the rows of vines mean you don’t have to walk on the tarmac sections of the road
