An easy, family-friendly walk in the south of the Alpilles mountains. Passes near the Caisses de Jean-Jean oppidum. ⚠️ 19/08/2025: Hike not suitable for dogs. Herds of 3 to 4 goats with guard dogs watching over them.

An easy walk in the Vanoise that is suitable for children or as a warm-up walk at the start of your stay. The circuit allows you to discover the Cirque des Nants and the Chavière valley from the balcony trail. There is a small lake on this trail that is a nice place to stop for the children.

This is a classic route in Pralognan, which takes theGR®55"motorway" on the way back. On the way there, the climb through the Cirque de l'Arcelin and Lac des Assiettes is truly superb and fairly uncrowded.

A walk that deviates from the balcony path, with a section off-trail, but no risk of getting lost.

This is a pleasant hike that takes you through the Cirque de Mourèze and offers superb views of Lake Salagou. This hike may be closed depending on the fire risk level. Be sure to check the map.

A fairly conventional circuit that lets walkers admire the Cirque de Navacelles and hike in the gorges of La Vis. The ruins of the Moulins de la Foux are the ultimate goal of the hike, with beautiful explanations of these water mills and on the underground portion of the screw, not yet fully explored.

Beautiful walk facing the Mont Blanc massif, with a permanent view of the massif and glaciers.

Located above the Tour glacier, on its right bank, it is the only refuge managed by the Chamonix CAF that can be reached without crossing a glacier in summer. Its location is ideal, with views over a wide range of peaks: Aiguille du Tour, Chardonnet, Aiguille d'Argentière, la Verte and les Drus, les Aiguilles Rouges. It was named after Albert 1st, King of the Belgians. Considered the only high-mountain refuge accessible to families.

Close to the Gorges de Régalon, the Gorges de la Peine are an easy way to discover this part of the Luberon.

A hike in a pleasant valley with plenty of water and the Pas de l'Escalette, a spot steeped in history. The return via the plateau offers a wide view of the surrounding area. Moderator update on 27/01/2021: some of the paths used in this itinerary have disappeared. However, there is a yellow-marked trail on site. See the reviews from January 2021.

This hike is a great way to discover Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert in a different way, arriving via the Cirque de l'Infernet, without long lines of cars or queues at the car park. Following a fire on 5 April 2023 on the heights of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and Saint-Jean-de-Fos, the route remains passable but the PR® des Fenestrettes is affected, as is the Arles road (GR®653). Please check with the Saint-Guilhem – Vallée de l'Hérault Tourist Office for information on the passability of the route.

(!) (September 2024). Following recent bad weather, the footbridge at point (6) has been swept away by the floodwaters. Fording the Gave de Pau is tricky and strongly advised against. (!) Updated 25/06/2025, Gavarnie Valleys Tourist Office. => The footbridge at (6) has been repaired and will reopen to the public from 25/06/2025.However, the footbridge located upstream of the Hôtellerie du Cirque (9) is still not in place, and fording the Gave de Pau is tricky depending on the current water level. The Tourist Office advises: ‘Please note, however, that the footbridge will be dismantled every late autumn and reassembled in late spring as it is situated in an avalanche path.’ A different approach to the Gavarnie Cirque. The plateau offers a panoramic view, allowing you to take it all in at a glance. A little later, you’ll wander through the cirque to fully appreciate its majesty. To quote Victor Hugo, the Colosseum of nature.

A short additional hike if you arrive at the Nice refuge too early. The lakes of Mont Clapier are a lovely and charming destination. As in the rest of the Mercantour, chamois and ibex are everywhere. The lakes may still be frozen in mid-June. The path is not signposted, but is clearly visible. The same instructions appear on the map and on the suggested walks displayed at the entrance to the refuge. The elevation gain is approximately 300m.

A charming alpine valley leading to the Refuge du Sélé or the Refuge du Pelvoux. The trail is not difficult, with only a handrail in place below the refuge.

This early morning hike is a sure-fire way to see chamois. It is easy to access and well-equipped photographers will be able to take some beautiful shots. For everyone else, the views alone will be a feast for the eyes. The only difficulty is getting up very early

A pleasant walk suitable for families, a half-day outing, or when you’re short on time, particularly after rain.

Dormillouse, a hamlet in the canton of Vaud tucked away at the far end of the Fressinière Valley, is as charming as ever. Steeped in history, it served as a refuge for persecuted peoples and saw a resurgence of interest after 1968 as people sought a return to nature.It is also the only village in the Écrins National Park that is inhabited all year round.This route features a circular loop through the meadows beyond the hamlet of Romans. This little-visited section offers wonderful views in the evening light.

Easily accessible at the top of the resort, this easy route can be enjoyed with children (by section depending on age). There are constant views of the entire mountain range.

The Val de Boí is particularly well known for its many Romanesque churches, whose original frescoes are preserved at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) in Barcelona. This valley is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But it is also the gateway to the Aigüestortes National Park. The suggested route is a discovery walk, a return trip that can therefore be adapted to suit. The scenery is breathtaking.

Located east of Salon-de-Provence, Tallagard is a plateau that stretches towards Aurons and Vernègues and offers easy hikes. Several well-preserved drystone shelters are visible from the start of the hike. The view is pleasant, overlooking the Alpilles, Mont Ventoux, Sainte-Baume and Sainte-Victoire.

A very short walk in this valley, well known to the people of Dijon. The route is through open woodland on a wide path. There is a long descent, then a return trip with a short, steep climb at the apiary. Very good signposting. Several other routes are available in the area.

The essentials of Manarola, with a circular that overlooks the most beautiful of the Cinque Terre villages. Breathtaking views of the village and the harbour await you, as do the most traditional images of the narrow streets.

An easy hike offering beautiful views of the Mercantour Massif and, opposite, the Madone de Fenestre valley. You can extend the hike on the mountain pasture towards the Tête du Brec (2566m).

A charming circular hike that can be done at the start of the season (June) when there is still snow. Chamois are often seen (early in the morning). The lake area is very pleasant and offers many options and views for picnics.

Located between Eygalières and Eyguiéres, this circular hike crosses a little-used plateau, from where you can see Les Opies to the south. Most of the route is through woodland, but the northern part and the plateau can be windy (Mistral). 17/07/2023 Moderator's note: the hike has been modified because the Roquemartine estate has closed all access from Saint Hubert to coast 169. A GPS or the Visorando app seems necessary for this hike. See reviews

A beautiful hike to discover the two neighbouring puys, with a refreshing approach walk. The view from the top is remarkable! Please note: Access to the summits of Puys de la Vache and Lassolas will be closed for works between spring 2026 and early 2028. Please note: the Montlosier car park is closed for works between August 2025 and 2027.

A delightful route for exploring Sainte-Eulalie-d'Olt and its surroundings. A very pleasant walk through the valley, which forms a circular route with a visit to Sainte-Eulalie halfway along the route.

A very classic walk to Saint-Martin du Canigou Abbey, an easy route, but very popular. The route is shaded and very pleasant. It is suitable for vehicles and pushchairs. The abbey is nestled in a beautiful setting and is well worth a visit.

A half-day hike offering superb views of Canigou and the surroundings of Vernet-les-Bains. You will also see the Church of Saint-Martin du Canigou nestled in its setting. The longer version of this route can be extended to Torre de Goa, returning via the path marked on the map on the western side, or by going to Colle de Jou and descending via the correc del coll de Jou and Casteil.

A charming walk around the lake with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding hills and modern buildings that blend in perfectly with the setting.

Beautiful promontory facing Pralognan, with stunning views of the entire area, including the Portetta breach and the Aiguille d'Août, which dominate the route. Unfortunately, this is now a round trip since the path (still shown on the map) through the Bois de Chollière is closed. (2008, order renewed every year since then, given the danger).

A very beautiful high-altitude hike, a bit challenging but probably one of the most stunning. It passes through several little-visited cirques and offers high-mountain views throughout the route. This is a one-way hike, so you’ll need to organise your return journey (see practical information).

This hike offers a beautiful excursion into the Vanoise National Park, where you can discover a glacial lake and enjoy splendid views of several glaciers, the Dômes de la Vanoise and Peclet Polset.

Another classic route from Pralognan with the very distinctive ridges of Mont Charvet. Magnificent views both towards Pralognan and its glacial domes and towards Courchevel. The path is exposed, sometimes narrow, and should not be used in wet weather. Schist peaks and dissolution cones dot this long ridge trail. Easy return via the mountain pastures.

Well known to Grenoble residents, this hike offers superb views of all the surrounding mountains, including Chartreuse, Vercors, Grandes Rousses, Taillefer and Belledonne. As soon as you arrive at the top of the cable car, your gaze is drawn to La Meije, which looks so close.⚠️ This hike can only be done on foot from 30 June to 1 October ⚠️

The legendary summit of Belledonne is easily accessible in summer. The entire route is superb, whether it's the view of Lac du Crozet from Col de la Pra, the Lacs des Doménon or the view from the summit.

A classic, well-known hike in the area to explore the Lacs des 7 Laux. Here, only the descent is described and used to complete this traverse, as it is not possible to continue easily on to the Refuge de l’Oule.

A walk that is mostly through woodland but offers beautiful views both towards Châtel and the Chalets de Lens. Ideal for a half-day walk on a hot day. You are in a protected area! See the regulations in the practical information section.

You’ll gradually discover the Clarée valley. As you gain altitude, your view will widen. It’ll soon become truly extraordinary!
