Park at the side of the road or at the fork in the road at the second hairpin bend to the left from the Colmiane station. There is limited space.
(S/E) Take the path in front of you that starts at the bend to the north-east and descends slightly. After about 200m, join a wider path that comes from the first bend in the road.
(1) Continue straight ahead for 400 metres, descending again, then ascending, until you reach the first fork.
(2) Take the path on the left, which climbs steeply. After 150 metres, continue on the path on the right and ignore the shortcut that branches off to the left and cuts across the hairpin bend in a few switchbacks. Continue on the path, which climbs steeply and makes three sharp hairpin bends. You will emerge from the forest. You can admire the landscape on the Mercantour side.
(3) At an altitude of around 2,050 metres, you will see a path that winds around the mountain and descends towards the climbing site. There is a signpost about 50 metres to the left, facing south, which is a good landmark. Continue straight ahead on the path to reach the pass (2,179 metres), which offers a clear view all around.
(4) You may be tempted to reach the Tête du Brec via the path on the right, which is fully visible. Otherwise, turn left to reach your destination, the Baus de la Frema. Superb viewpoint.
(5) Return via the same path to the starting point (S/E).
, we wanted to follow the signs for "retour parking via ferrata" to make a circular route (black path on the map, rejoining the car park at the end of the road). It's doable, but there are about four short sections with ladders and handrails. Someone who is comfortable and has no fear of heights can manage it without equipment, but otherwise it can quickly become dangerous.
