Park along the north side of the church at La Chapelle-Villars; it’s a pleasant place to park when it’s very hot.
Please note! This route is not signposted.
(S/E) Head east along a small road, the Chemin du Pras. Pass close to Villars Castle. The road veers south. At the next house, turn right onto the Chemin de la Vieille Chapelle. Continue along this road until you reach the village of La Vieille Chapelle.
(1) Turn right onto the Route du Col de Grenouze. Shortly afterwards, as the road begins to curve to the right, leave it and head up a path through the woodland on the left. Ignore a path on the left. Further on, ignore a path on the right and then, immediately afterwards, continue along the edge of the woodland. You’ll emerge onto a road at the Col de Grenouze.
(2) Turn left onto the road for a few metres, then turn left onto a track. At the next fork, turn left. Turn left again at the junction just after, then left again at the next crossroads; immediately after, at the three-way junction, continue to the right.
(3) Further on, ignore a path on the left and go round Mont Ministre along a wide track. Ignore another path on the right, then one on the left, to reach the Col de Pavezin.
(4) Turn right onto the road and immediately take the path on the left (Chemin du Col), between the houses. Continue along the small road that extends from it and, at the junction, turn left to come out immediately onto a road, the Route de la Chartreuse, at a cross.
(5) Follow this road to the right for just a few metres before turning left onto a path (Chemin des Chavannes). At the next junction, turn right towards the house and continue to the crossroads.
(6) Carry on straight ahead along the small Route de la Challe. Continue along this road, passing the hamlet, until you reach a junction.
(7) Carry on to the right until you reach a junction with the D78 at La Conty. Continue along the path opposite, which, further on, takes a hairpin bend. Further on, ignore a path on the right and carry on to the Croix-de-Trève junction, where you’ll join a road, the D625.
(8) Follow the road to the left for a few metres, then, before the junction with another road, turn onto the path on the right.
(9) Further on, ignore a path on the right, then a path on the left. At a house, the path turns into a road, then leads to La Balasserie.
(10) Leave the road as it begins to curve to the left, and turn onto a path on the right. At the junction just after this, keep right. Carry on straight ahead at the next junction and, further on, ignore a path on the right. Head down towards a stream.
(11) Cross the stream, then head back up to a fork in the path. Take the left-hand path along this wide track (Chemin de Suzieu) until you come out onto the Grande Rue de Longe.
(12) Turn right and carry on until you reach a fork in the road by the school. Turn right onto Rue du Château. Carry straight on at the next junction. The street curves to the left. Immediately after, at the fork, turn right. Then turn left onto Chemin de la Madone. This small street ends and continues as a track. Walk straight up into the woodland.
(13) Ignore the path on the right, then the one on the left, and carry on uphill, keeping in the same direction, until you come out onto a large field at a junction marked by a cross, the Croix de Longes.
(14) Carry on straight ahead until you come out onto a road. Follow it to the right to reach the first houses in Remillieux. At the junction, turn left, then, at the next junction, carry on straight ahead along the Chemin du Pontey.
(15) Carry on in this direction until you reach the D625. Follow this road to the left as it bends to the right, and continue along the road to the Col de Grenouze, the start of our circular route.
(2) Then return to the starting point via the same route as on the way out:
Carry on along the road straight ahead to the left for a few metres, then turn onto the path on the left to head back down to La Vieille Chapelle.
(1) Turn left onto the small road on the left, then further on, take the second street on the left to reach the church at La Chapelle-Villars (S/E).
We had a picnic near the church in Longes, which is very beautiful.
