The village of Reventin-Vaugris and the Gerbole valley

The village of Reventin-Vaugris is located in the north-west of the Isère department. Go to the centre of the village and park in the car park behind the church.

(S/E) Leave the car park and take Rue des Écoles on the right, heading east. Pass three intersections and, at the fourth, turn left onto Chemin de l'Aubressin, which climbs uphill. Continue along the tarmac section, which crosses a stream.

(1) Leave this road and take a dirt track that branches off to the right and uphill. Follow this track across the fields until you reach a road on a bend. Follow this road for about 100 metres and then turn left onto a dirt track until you reach an intersection with a cross.

(2) Turn right onto Chemin des Chasseurs and continue straight ahead until you reach a paved section. Follow this road for about 150 metres, then at a bend, leave it and take a dirt track on the left. Continue until you reach the edge of a road.

(3) Turn left and then right at the fork. Continue straight downhill, ignoring two paths on the right and then one on the left, until you reach a ford at the bottom of the valley. Cross the Ruisseau de la Combe Noire stream.

(4) Turn left and continue straight ahead on this path, which joins another path. Continue left on this path. After a hairpin bend on the right, the path joins another path again. Follow it to the left until you reach a small stone bridge (Pont de Amoureux).

(5) Cross this bridge and continue uphill on the other side until you reach a road, which you should follow for about 100 metres.

(6) Leave the road and take the dirt track on the left downhill. During the descent, ignore a path that branches off to the left, then you will reach a fork in the path.

(7) Take the path on the left and continue down the winding path. When you reach the bottom of the valley, follow the Gerbole stream to a small bridge.

(8) Cross it and continue up the path on the other side. The slope is quite steep here. The climb continues with hairpin bends. You will come to a fork in the path; take the right-hand path. Continue straight ahead uphill until you reach an intersection with a hiking signpost.

(9) Turn right and continue straight ahead on this path. The path will veer to the left and join a road.

(10) Take the road on the left and continue until you reach a left-hand bend. Turn right onto a dirt track leading downhill. Cross a stream and continue straight ahead on this downhill track until you reach a road with a cross.

(11) Immediately take the dirt track on the right. Continue straight ahead down this track until you reach the first houses of the village of Reventin. Before the church, turn left and head for the car park (S/E).
