Start from the Val de Gally cemetery (car park), along the D12 road that connects the Les Bordes de Villepreux neighbourhood to Fontenay-le-Fleury.
This route follows sections ofPR® trails that are sparsely and intermittently marked. In the description below, trail markers are therefore only indicated when necessary.
(S/E) Opposite the cemetery entrance, take the path that leaves from the left of a small building and follow a hedge on your right. Go down between two fences and, at the end of the path, turn right (orange arrow), go down a flight of steps and continue along a path between two property walls. At the end of the path, go through a forest gate, turn left and you will come to a street (castle gate on the left).
(1) Follow the road to the right (ignore the orange arrow pointing left), preferably on the left-hand pavement. Cross Rue André Le Nôtre, then cross Ru de Gally. At the roundabout, turn left and follow the D161 towards Rennemoulin for about 100 metres.
(2) Just after the first electricity pole, turn left (yellow and green arrow), go through a forest gate and go up a path alongside a hedge on your right. At the fork at the top of the hill (signpost), take the right-hand path (east), keeping the hedge on your right. Stay on the edge of the plateau and ignore a few access points to the fields below on the right. Go through a metal gate and ignore the path that branches off to the left.
(3) At a junction with a path leading downhill to the right (small piles of rocks at the corner), continue straight ahead (northeast) along the edge of the plateau, with a few shrubs on your right and above the cultivated fields of Fonds de Chaponval. As you approach the first houses, the road gives way to a path that runs alongside gardens or hedges on the left. Pass between two wooden posts and come to a crossroads (small pumping device).
(4) Continue straight ahead (ignore the yellow and green marker at the entrance to the path on the left) and, at the fork that immediately appears, turn right (ignore the markers on the left). Pass under a power line and turn left with the path.
(5) At the next crossroads (yellow sign with two sides, orange marker, yellow and green marker), turn right onto a grassy path towards a house. At the end, go through a forest gate and continue along the road opposite (south, orange arrow).
(6) Shortly after a no entry sign, turn right at the corner of a stone house and pass under a small arbour. Go down a grassy path and then down some steps. At the bottom, follow the D161 road on the left. Note an old fountain on the left and, at the fork, go down to the right towards the town hall. Note the wash house on the left and follow Rue du Moulin (dead end) to the right. Cross the Ru de Gally and reach a junction with Chemin de la Chapelle.
(7) Follow Chemin de la Chapelle on the right with Ru de Gally on your right. Continue to the Chapelle Saint-Nicolas. Retrace your steps.
(7) Turn right onto Chemin de Fontenay and Bois d'Arcy (tarmac road). Go slightly uphill, leaving the town hall on your right, and continue south on a farm track. Follow this track to the end (in the distance on the left, you will see the Palace of Versailles).
(8) At the T-junction (signpost), follow the tarmac track on the right (not accessible to cars). Stay on the tarmac until the end. Cross the Ru de l'Oisemont (information plaque about the bridge), climb slightly opposite and pass under a power line. Further on, follow a hedge on your left, cross the D12 (take care) and you will find the cemetery car park opposite (S/E).
