Parking is available at the Petit Moulin car park near Cernay-la-Ville, located near the Salons Léopold on the D91. (The car park immediately adjacent to the Petit Moulin is reserved for disabled visitors). Normally, there is space for 7 to 10 cars without any issues.
(S/E) Head towards the far end of the car park and take the small path signposted ‘Petit Moulin’ at the far end of the car park on the Senlisse side. Go down a few steps to take the path on the left (west-south-west). Then turn right. Walk past the Petit Moulin on your left, then stay on the right bank of the stream until you reach the dyke enclosing the Étang de Cernay and arrive at the Monument Pelouse.
(1) Take the path on the left that runs alongside the pond (ignore a path that climbs immediately to the right). Follow the pond on your left; this section is often damp, or even flooded, but there is a track running parallel above the path that allows you to cross without any difficulty.
This is a nature trail (blue markings, very faded) featuring numerous information boards on the flora and geology. Stay on this path (do not take the tracks on the right that climb up to the ridge, nor the path on the left that crosses the river).
(2) At the corner of the wall, take the path that climbs diagonally to the right and leads to a climbing site (do not continue along the path that runs alongside the wall, as you will be entering private property). Continue climbing north-westwards, following the GR®1C. Leave the GR® when it branches off to the right and, after a few metres, join the cycle path.
(3) Follow the cycle path to the right (north-north-east). Stay on the cycle path, which winds for about 500 m before straightening out. Pass a junction with a path running perpendicular to the cycle path.
(4) A little further on, take the unmarked path on the right which cuts across the cycle path diagonally.
(5) After about 200 m, a track on the left leads to the wooden staircase that takes you up to the quarries (informative sign about the geology). Head to the back of the quarry towards the quarry face and follow the path that runs along the back of the quarry and then joins thesecond quarry (numerous informative signs). Head to the right to leave the quarry via a wide path.
After leaving the quarries, turn left (north-north-east) onto a stony forest track.
(6) At the junction, rejoin the cycle path and follow it to the right. Cross the bridge over a seasonal stream. Take thesecond path on the right.
(7) After about 150 m, join theGR®®1Cand follow it to the right at an acute angle. TheGR®® now goes round an old quarry. It is also possible to cross the quarry (blue markings) but the exit is very steep.
After the quarry, head left and continue on theGR®®, which soon veers right (south-east). After a descent, a crossing over a seasonal stream and then an ascent, theGR®® becomes flat and wider. After about 700 m (around 12 minutes), theGR®® makes a turn to the right at a signpost marking the “Coude du Ru des Vaux”. A little further on, you can see Cernay church to the left on the other side of the valley. Continue along theGR®® which runs along the edge of the plateau for 700 m. Below, you can see the path that leads to the pond.
(8) At the next junction, turn sharply left onto this path and head down to the Pelouze Monument.
(1) Head towards the Petit Moulin (do not cross the embankment). Note the basins and the spillway. After crossing the river to reach the Petit Moulin museum, turn right. You can walk behind the small mill to look at other structures and the information boards, before retracing your steps.
Then head towards the car park (signposted). There are actually several parallel paths for walking between the river branches. Return to the car park (S/E).
