Parking in the village of Autouillet in a small triangular car park at the junction of two small roads and near an old wash house (Lavoir bus stop).
No signposts
(S/E) Head north-northwest on the Route des Châteaux, which is between Thoiry and Villiers-le-Mahieu, leaving a small car park on your left and the wash house on your right.
Yellow signposts
(1) Before leaving the village, take a small lane on the right (Sentier des Plantes). The tarmac soon gives way to a path through chestnut trees. This comes out onto a small road.
Yellow + red and white markings
Follow the road on the left into the forest, with theGR®11.
(2) At the stop sign, turn right at an acute angle, go through a forest gate and follow a path heading south-east, ignoring a few paths branching off to the sides. Go downhill and arrive at the Chapel of Saint-Santin (written Saint-Sanctin on site). Leave the chapel on your left and continue along the edge of the woods on your left. Ignore a path on the right and go downhill to the small vineyard in the commune of Auteuil.
Yellow markings
(3) Leave theGR® trail that branches off to the left and continue south on a small road that descends gently to Auteuil. At the crossroads, take the road on the right towards Autouillet.
(4) When you reach a fork, leave the tarmac and follow a field path on the left heading south-south-east. Pass a fenced property with a pond in the middle, continue downhill to the south-east and pass a motorcycle playground on your right. At a crossroads, continue straight ahead, follow a copse on your left and cross the Ru de la Ceriseraie.
(5) Then turn right immediately to follow the stream, keeping it on your right. You will reach a road. Make a right-left zigzag to take a path through the fields heading west.
(6) Before reaching any buildings (La Haie Frogeay), turn right at a right angle. Take a small road and, when it turns right, continue north on a path through a meadow. Join the Ru du Merdron and continue north along the edge of the woods (path not shown on the IGN map).
Red and white markings
(7) At the junction ofthe PR® (yellow) andGR®11(red and white) trails, follow the grassy verge to the right over the Aqueduc de l'Avre (underground aqueduct). Leave the woods and continue along the grassy verge. At the first house, the path becomes impassable: take a path on the right that runs parallel to it.
(8) At the end, follow the Route de la Haye Frogeay on the left, which winds through the village. At the foot of the church, turn left and leave the war memorial on your right. At the Place du Rendez-Vous des Chasseurs, turn left to find the wash house and the car park (S/E).
. It was a very welcome return to nature after lockdown... I highly recommend it
