Departure from Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche - Forêt de Marly station.
(S/E) Coming from Paris, exit at the front of the train and cross the level crossing to the left. Walk up the street between the two stations, cross the bridge over the Grande Ceinture line and turn right. Take the path marked in white and red (GR®) and yellow and red (GRP®) that runs alongside the railway line (heading north, i.e. away from Paris).
(1) Continue straight ahead on theGRP® (yellow and red) and leave theGR® on your left as it climbs uphill. At the Étoile de la Maison Rouge (plot no. 12), continue uphill to the right, following the signs, which curve to the right (north-east).
(2) At a crossroads, turn left at a right angle (north) and uphill, following the yellow-red markings. About 500m further on, shortly after passing No. 87, you will arrive at the wide Route de la Claire (No. 86). Turn right at a right angle (east-northeast) and continue until the first crossroads, the Étoile de la Claire Forêt.
(3) At the Étoile de la Claire Forêt crossroads, there is a remarkable oak tree with a large base, marked No. 93, in the foreground of a large clearing surrounded by oak trees, with a picnic table.
From this crossroads, continue in the same direction (east-northeast). Pass the Étoile du Chêne au Chât (like châtaigne). You will come to a fence enclosing a beautiful oak tree and a reservoir. Turn left (north) immediately after. At the next crossroads (No. 92), turn left (west) along a ruined wall.
after 200 metres, you will come to a crossroads with several paths (numbers 92 and 93). Continue for another 50 metres in the same direction.
(4) On the left, slightly hidden by vegetation, you will see a huge oak tree: a truly impressive tree, both for its diameter and its straight trunk and crown.
Return to the crossroads and take the path on the right (south then south-west). On the slope, take the first narrow, little-used path on the right at a right angle (north-west). Cross the D98 (be careful, traffic is fast). On the other side, continue in the same direction (north-west) until you reach a large crossroads with a paved road that is accessible to cars but not very busy.
(5) Note the magnificent red beech tree on the right. Follow the road to the right until you reach the forest house: opposite is a cedar tree.
Return to the crossroads.
(5) Turn right and continue along the road you arrived on (north-west), downhill. At the end of the lane, at the Étoile de Fourqueux (no. 82-76), note a forked oak tree. Turn left at an obtuse angle (west). About 75m further on, at no. 76, turn diagonally right (north-west), along the wall of a golf course.
(6) On the left side of the path, you will see the Frédéric Fountain (padlocked). Continue along the wall. Pass No. 75. When the wall turns right, continue straight ahead (northwest) until you reach the Étoile du Loup (No. 74).
(7) Then take the second road on the right, which is wide and heads north. Further on, it curves to the left (north-west).
(8) At the Étoile de Montaigu, take the second path on the right, i.e. 45° to the right of the paved road. About 100 metres further on, on the left of the path, you will find the Fontaine de l'Étoile de Montaigu. The shelter for the fountain itself is accessible below, behind the sign. Continue along the same path.
Walk along a pond on your right and turn left as soon as possible at a right angle onto a small path (north-west). At the edge of plot 68, turn left again at an obtuse angle (west-north-west). Cross the tarmac road you came from, then take a well-marked path that cuts diagonally across. About 100 metres further on, at number 66, turn right at a right angle (south-south-west). Continue in the same direction for 600 metres, crossing two paths.
(9) The main path turns left at a right angle (east-southeast). After about 100 metres, take a left to explore the ruins of the Château de la Montjoie. Continue along the path and you will soon come to a wide perpendicular path: follow this path to the right (southwest). Pass between two yellow gas pipeline markers.
At the Étoile de la Montjoie (n°62-63), you will find yourself in front of a steep, intimidating climb, which you should not take: continue for a few metres then turn right at an obtuse angle (west-northwest) onto a little-used path (remains of yellow-red markings). Continue straight ahead until you come to the wall of a golf course and the Porte de Joyenval (closed).
(10) Porte de Joyenval. Turn left uphill (south-southwest). When the wall turns right (No. 61), follow it (west-northwest). After 500m, past Nos. 54 and 61, the path curves left (southwest) at Nos. 52 and 54.
300m further on, at no. 52, the wall turns right.
(11) Here, turn left, heading south-west, then south. The path joins a more marked track and curves to the left (south-east), then, at numbers 53-52, joins theGR® marked in white and red. From here, follow the white and red markings until you reach your destination.
Note a remarkable oak tree on the left. 200 m further on, at a crossroads, turn left (east). Pass numbers 55-56 and then 60, heading generally east or east-southeast. Cross a paved road (no cars), passing a picnic table on your left and a curious stone mushroom on your right. Continue following the white-and-red markings, which curve to the right (southeast).
(12) About 400m after the mushroom, the marked path bends sharply to the right (south). 100m further on, cross a tarmac road, where you should turn diagonally to the left (pass a picnic table, heading due south). after 400m, cross the D98 (heavy traffic); continue in the same direction, following the white-red markings. At the end of a climb, you will arrive at the Croix Saint-Michel (panoramic view).
(13) The marked path then curves to the right (west) at the edge of the plateau, then to the left (south-west then south-east). Pass numbers 106-107.
In the clearing at Étoile de la Dayade, turn left onto the white-and-red marked side road towards the station, descending east-northeast. Continue in the same direction at Étoile de Maison Rouge No. 110. A few metres further on, rejoin the path you took on the way there.
(1) Follow the path marked in white and red and yellow and red to the right. Cross the railway line again and turn left to reach the station (S/E).
