This walk is a circular route starting at Notre-Dame de la Salette (Cessens) and ending at La Chambotte. It passes by the Tours de César and the castle ruins before descending towards the hamlet of La Chambotte, following the ridge.

From Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu, a circular route to the Maison Forte viewpoint above Vernatel offers a superb view towards the Chevelu Lakes. It is possible to climb to the Dent du Chat via the Col de la Vacherie.

This walk allows you to take in the panoramic view of Lake Bourget from the village of Tresserve, then walk around Tresserve Hill and enjoy the lakeside beaches along the cycle path.

A circular route mainly through woodland in the Montagne de l’Épine above La Motte-Servolex. The path, which is quite steep for the first few kilometres, joins a forest track that descends towards the hamlet of Les Cattis, where there are views towards Lac du Bourget (to the north-east), the Massif des Bauges (to the east) and the Cluse de Chambéry. On the return journey, after a few sections along roads, you pass through the hamlets of Les Granges, Le Villard and Montaugier.

A pleasant route starting from Jongieux, alternating between sections through the vineyards of the Savoyan foothills and through woodland, culminating in a route around Mont Landard and its viewpoint overlooking Saint-Pierre-de-Curtille.

A walk north-west of Sheffield on the edge of the Peak District National Park, through Greno Wood Nature Reserve and the Wharncliffe moorland to the Dragon’s Den site. This rocky spot on the Wharncliffe cliffs is said to be the lair of the famous Wantley Dragon.

A lovely walk through the Chautagne State Forest (poplar groves), heading for the Mollard de Vions and the Port of Chatillon. The short, steep climb up to the Mollard de Vions offers panoramic views from the Canon de Vions site over the Rhône, the Grand Colombier and the Lavours Marshes plain. During the descent towards Vions, there’s a viewpoint overlooking Lac du Bourget and the Croix du Nivolet. From Vions, it’s possible to continue on a round trip to Chanaz and the lock on the Canal de Savières, but the entire section along the Rhône has very few shaded areas.

A pleasant and refreshing route thanks to the many lakes and streams along the way. It is situated to the west of the village of Thoys, in an area of forests and marshes to the south of the Bugey. You’ll be walking through peaceful, relaxing surroundings, taking in the typical landscapes and villages of the Bugey.

Set off to explore the geological features in the forest above Miribel-les-Échelles, heading towards the Col des Mille Martyrs. Numerous crosses – some recent, others ancient and steeped in history – dot this route. In other open areas, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Chartreuse mountains and the plain stretching towards Les Échelles and Saint-Laurent-du-Pont. To avoid roads as much as possible, you’ll take certain paths deep within the forest that aren’t always shown on the IGN map.

Explore the western part of the Herrétang peat bogs from its observation points, after following the cycle path uphill towards the Rocher de la Garde to enjoy its 360° panorama.

Set off to discover the sights on this walk, which takes place mainly through woodland on the hills above Yenne. It follows part of the GR®65 route, offering panoramic views of the meandering Rhône, the villages in the plain and the mountains overlooking them, as well as Pierre Châtel’s fortress. Despite a few minor roads, it is a very pleasant walk.

During the heat of summer, this route allows you to enjoy the coolness of the woodland whilst exploring this important site of the Resistance on the heights of the Bois de Barby, below the hamlet of Curienne. This farm, now in ruins, was home to one of the very first maquis groups in the region in August 1942.

Rather than heading off to see the Grottes des Échelles and the Voie Sardes, I suggest heading to the Gerbaix viewpoint, setting off from the picturesque little hamlet of Côte Barrier through woodland and mountain pastures, with lovely scenery and impressive views.
